My annual check in to wish all 970 Rs that travelled to Hartlepool, Happy Anniversary of seeing a great 1 4 win and of course meeting Deckchair Guy. Oh and we saw Lee Camp make a great debut
One of the great days. My old mentor/replacement dad Stuart took me. Lost a crown on his tooth down the steps after Furlong's goal. Chased back to the train station by some generous well wishers waving pool cues to congratulate us on our victory. Locked in and sent south rather than back to Newcastle because West Ham were at Sunderland. Changed trains at, perhaps, Eaglescliffe? The whole away end diverted into a pub at the top of the footbridge. Bought the landlady a new holiday home with those takings.
Saw my dad's mate Mark on the train back from Darlington yesterday. He says it's his last season. I reckon he said it that day as well.
Mate worked for Nationwide got my daughter and I complimentary tickets that were just behind the dug out. Had to sit on our hands but after the game as the crowd dispersed got a big grin from Furlong when I said "nicely done Furs" (or something like that) as he left the pitch.
Is that Matthew Rose waltzing in from the left wing to set up a goal?
The third division promotion season and one before were the best. Possibly because I was 12/13 at the time but seemed to go to all sorts of weird and wonderful places rather than Blackburn.
I Met my now Ex Wife (And reason I live in Newcastle) that evening. Pleased Rangers won - Makes it a happy day :)
I was there with My uncle, cousin and a few friends, we ended up having to get cabs back to Newcastle due to the trains as we were staying in Whitley Bay for the weekend. I always thought that was because of rail works, not West Ham being at Sunderland!
Stood in the train station there were two pubs outside were the locals were a little animated to say the least.
My son & I went on the train (may have gone with a few other mates too), the only time I been to Hartlepool, great win, Camp was good, one of my favourites, Paul Furlong , was good that day too but they all done a good job on the day. Think there was trouble at the station when we left Hartlepool. Fun times.
We can move on to discussing tomorrows midfiled choices soon :-) but as far as this trip/season, although it was third tier, it was one of my favourite seasons, there felt a real "we're in it together" between fans & the team. We did meet some nice 'Poolies that day in their social club pre match, they had an old style Shoot League ladder on the wall and there we were tucked in third (snigger). They complimented us as being only the second team to sell out the away end that season thus far as "no one wants to come up here" The station shenanigans came about because the first hourly train back to Newcy post match, was cancelled so we were told it was a 75 minute wait or buses/coaches. Plod gave the station platforms over to Rs and held the livlier Pool fans outside.

It ran that train, it trundled through without stopping, because they didn't want 1,500 of us colliding with 1,500 West Ham at Sunderland.

:-) your anorak is bigger than mine. I do recall we couldn't go anywhere for over an hour. Meanwhile my brother was at Sunderland following West Ham and was on his lonesome back in Newcy with our beers for ages. Happy times
Oh and of course Lee Camp randomly turning up and playing an absolute blinder (even the Pools goal, they needed three attempts to get the ball past him!)
I still believe that Jeff Stelling holds a grudge against us for the two 4-1 pastings we gave his team that season. I always felt he was a bit snidey towards QPR when he was on Soccer Saturday.
