I heard a piece of music yesterday that reminded me of the day I nervously entered my first pub, way back in about nineteen canteen.
There was a bloke playing piano and singing, to the tune of Abide With Me “we've ad no beer, we've 'ad no bleedin' beer”.
I was hooked.
Anyone else ?

My debut was in the White Hart, Hampton (now flats) in the 70's. It was run by a couple of alcoholics who were trying to run it into the ground because they were skint and wanted to get rid of it. There was one real ale on tap. I think it was called Gibbs Premium. It was about 9%, if I remember rightly. Plus Worcester Sauce crisps. They used to serve me even though I was only 14 and about 5 ft tall.

In Bracknell 1983 I was 16, we had a pub called the wildridings, was packed on a weekend with under 18’s, it was nicknamed the childridings, have some great memories after I left school in there.

The first pub where I ever bought a pint at the bar was either the Honeypot on Honeypot Lane in Queensbury, or the Black Horse in Sudbury.

My first local was the Green Man in Wembley.

North Pole pub, four of us went there at school lunchtime.

The barman, we were in school uniform, asked if we were 18. Couldn’t have been more blatantly obvious we weren’t, but when we collectively blurted out ‘yes’ the entire pub pissed themselves laughing. He still served us though.

I remember nervously sipping my first pint, looking around me and thinking are all pubs full of pyschopathic maniacs.

We used to drink in the King’s Head Roehampton as that was the only pub that served 13 year olds.We moved on up the road to the Angel in the high st when we discovered Young’s beer at 14.As long as you didn’t get lairy, the rest of the regulars didn’t mind.
I paid a visit to both of them for the first time in almost 40 years 18 months ago,and I was the only one drinking Youngs. The rest were on fancy lagers and bottled beers.

Haha.

One of my old locals (I won't say where but there was a few of them) was called the Moon Under Water and everyone used to call it the Moon Under Age.

The first time I ever went to the pub, it was at the Good Yarn in Uxbridge, a haven for the underaged. I was 17. I drank 10 orange reefs, and had two doner kebabs on the way home (one in Uxbridge, one in Hillingdon).

I had an 8 hour shift on the checkouts in Tesco the next morning and spent the entirety of trying not to shit myself
