Its a slow process but I think we are heading in the right direction. I'm pretty pleased with this squad of players , I think it definitely has potential.

It did remind me of the Coventry game, but last half hour, we were in the ascendancy. We are not top four quality, but we are in the mix after that, which for us is decent in comparison to recent seasons.. Cifuentes' Leicester are finally showing form. Let us see next who wins the Nourry Derby... |
I must admit I was fearing a total collapse in the first half. One way to look at it is that we're not as psychologically vulnerable a couple of months on. You could add the response to the Blackburn equaliser as evidence for that too.

But there tactics and formation was something I'd never seen before. Fluid 4-2-2-2 with the wingers starting as 10's The fullbacks pushed really high to become wing backs and the centre mid dropped into defence to make a back 3. The winger 10s would push wide if they attacked down the wing out numbering us, or stay central if they attacked down the middle out numbering us. We would get narrow to combat it and they would then do these diags to other full back to open us up. We just did not have a clue how to play against it along with there fast transition. Will be interesting in the next 6-10 games to see which teams work out how to combat it and how they do it |
Yeah I said on the match thread in jest that this might be a system that's impossible to play against! I mean that can't be true, but like you say it'll be interesting to see how teams play against it over the season

It's a very old suggestion of mine, but, I do not think that the manager gets a very good view of the game from the dugout and the technical area. Great for passing messages and giving instructions during breaks in play, but not much good for anything else. Someone needs to be sitting somewhere higher up, where there is a better view of the entire pitch and he/she can provide some input on the pattern of play. |
Noticed when Chris Ramsey was involved in coaching he was often sat up high presumably feeding back information to the bench. I’d be surprised and disappointed if we don’t have someone doing a similar job now. [Post edited 14 Dec 18:18]

We have yet to see our two best wingers, Poku and Chair, play together in any meaningful way. Look forward to seeing what improvement this might bring.

Back in August I reckon 'Borough could have just taken their foot off the gas and seen the game out for 3-0 or maybe got a late 4th. Obviously lots to do to avoid getting over-run in midfield in the first place and to be able to press for an equaliser. But the attitude seems decent IMO and that's the start.

I reckon Alou Diarra does it as you don’t always see him in the dugout at home games… And regarding the rest of this thread, we are a long way from perfect but I’m generally enjoying this season a hell of a lot more than the last 3 or 4
