I think that is a little high with £10-12K being a ball park figure. Often when we negotiate a contract extension we factor in the cost to purchase a replacement plus salary over the term of the contract. That was probably the situation with Fulton. We are operating with a different mindset now but looking at some of the players we have bought and ditched at a loss since was it really such a bad deal. | | | |

He's someone coaches know that they can depend on. Whether that's doing the physical battling that Sheehan used him for, to meld with Grimes as some sort of hive mind as others did, or as Matos is demonstrating, he can push forward a bit too.
Just a good pro. Not a whiff of scandal off the pitch, willing to be a bench player if needs be, clearly held in high regard by the other players and staff at the club.
Wouldn't be remotely surprised if he goes on to have a good coaching career when he hangs up his boots, which hopefully will be a while yet. I can certainly see him slipping into the "senior pro on a reduced wage adding cover to the squad" role that Naughton used to fill.
Actually, thinking about it, he's a very similar character to Kyle IMO. Both good pros and apparently good people. Both hugely respected figures within the club. Both played more than 300 games for us despite being continually criticised by some of our less cerebral fellow posters. [Post edited 23 Jan 7:03]

Info we had going way back when Steve Cooper pushed for his signing in the January of that season was 15k. Jay has earned a good few million at Swansea. A quiet man away from the pitch with a family that he has kept well out of the spotlight, unlike Grimes. Has numerous investments in Swansea and enjoys the lifestyle his salary has given him.
He will get a new contract at some point before this one ends this year but it will be in the region of what Joe and Kyle got, not big bucks. He can expect at least a seventy five percent reduction imo. |  |

His biggest problem for years was that him and Grimes just weren’t compatible. Neither players fault, their playing styles just didn’t suit each other, but played together for a long time due to lack of options. Grimes looked better when Fulton didn’t play and Fulton looks better now Grimes has left.

Spot on that FB, his form seems to have improved since Matos's arrival, although he had his moments under Sheehan, long may it continue, every club needs a horses for course's player. |  |

That’s what I’m saying. They weren’t at all compatible but both played due to lack of competition and it didn’t do either of them any favours.
On the occasions Allen was fit, they both looked better.
Last couple of games, particularly Birmingham with Franco and Widdell a bit further up allowing Fulton to play to his strengths, he’s looked really good.

Always has been the best "reader" of the game in our squad post Premier League. Watch him a bit more closely and how he has evaluated his position and mentally moved the ball on before even receiving it. A footballer's footballer in the true sense.

He’s always been good. He has struggled playing roles that aren’t suited to him and for a long time he was alongside a player who wanted to do exactly the same as him.
