From 1973 until about 2004 the cup final was one of my favourite days of the year. Didn't miss a minute. Just got home and remembered it was today. |
Same here although my interest in it started going around the turn of the millennium.
The 6, 16, 26, 36 year old me would never have thought that 25 years later I would have so little interest in it. It was always one of the highlights of the season you would always watch.
A few factors have contributed. Primarily the Premier League and the vast sums of money creating the massive chasm between the usual suspects and the rest.
The rounds being played over a span over 4-5 days to suit television.
Replays abolished.
The FA dictating that semi-finals have to be played at Wembley.
The fact it is no longer the final game of the domestic season as it always was and should still be.
Since 2005 including today there have been 22 finals. Of those 44 teams contesting those finals, 32 times the final has been contested with Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal, North Battersea and Liverpool in it. 29 times just the first four alone.

You are correct , it was 83,337 or in other words 4 thousand short of QPR V Derby play off final attendance of 87,348 which i think holds the record in the new Wembley stadium for any play off final . | | | |
