Killings involving a knife or sharp instrument fell by 21% last year.
I'm not here to defend the Met, or Sadiq, any of the other bogey men. I'm just here to say how you feel or what you think happened when you we younger from memory doesn't compare with statistics and the truth.
Wagon Wheels aren't smaller either.

Probably.
Post covid working habits, gentrification, and technology are probably amongst the reasons too.
By the way, i'm not trying to diminish recent tragedies either, I just think things can be resolved better if we work from the basis of accuracy. [Post edited 3 Jun 15:11]

The majority of murder victims know their murderer. To be a victim of murder where it’s random, and not know each other, is rare.
What about stabbings in London though? Muggings are ten a penny in London now, and a knife is usually involved. When I was younger, it was a big story if you heard of a stabbing. Now it’s commonplace.
So London is not safer nowadays. You felt relatively safe years ago, you don’t now. |
I don't feel unsafe at all when I'm out and about in London.
Granted, that may be lifestyle related I'm not exploring the underbelly of London nightlife at all hours as I used to. But it's absolute nonsense to claim that London is less safe than it was in the 70s and 80s when football violence was a weekly event and random aggro was an ever present risk (Paul Weller didn't just dream up Down In The Tube Station at Midnight). Just being into live music when I was a teenager was a risk given the amount of thugs looking for trouble at many gigs.
It might be more dangerous for teenagers living on estates where there's gang activity, but that's nothing new either. There is a bigger problem with kids carrying knives, but that's not really affecting middle aged people going about their daily business.
One thing that definitely is on the rise again though is organised far right violence. I thought crowds of lagered up hooligans sieg heiling were in the past, but no. [Post edited 3 Jun 15:27]
