"I was in St Mary's with 30,000 other Saints supporters who taunted Middlesbrough throughout with chants about Spying where we want and making binocular motions etc."

Not 30,000. Maybe you and thousands of others Nick, but not me. I don't take pride in my club cheating. I cringed at the chants and when I saw the photos of idiots dressed up in camouflage and all the rest of it. It was just arrogance asking to be punished... and punished it certainly was. I expect that next year there will still be some singing about spying when we want etc. because they think it's cool to be defiant or whatever. When that happens I will cringe again.

But I'm glad you've now accepted that we were cheating instead of all that BS about how we can't have been spying at Boro. It sounds as though you're now making your way through the "7 stages of grief" just like everyone else. Maybe you're still a bit stuck at the "bargaining" stage, but eventually we'll all make it through to "acceptance and hope".

If Solak says he's gone...he's gone

Until one or both of those things occur, all other options will have to wait their turn.

If the players say he's gone... he's gone.

If Parsons sees it as a way of saving his job... he's gone.

If Spors doesn't stand by him... he's gone.

If he doesn't feel supported by the club after internal investigations, possible fines and being pilloried by HR over his treatment of staff... he'll decide himself that he's gone.

If the players say he is gone then we are truly stuffed as no one wants squad where the players dictate whether the manager stays or goes.

The reality is the player have no say, they are paid to do a job and they will want the best man in charge and if that is Tonda then they will stick by him, you make the mistake that you think the players actually give a toss about the morals of the situation.

There is no doubt inside the club as to who knew and who didnt know.

The players always dictate whether the manager stays or goes. No doubt this very squad were very influential in Will Still going. There's no hope for a manager who has lost the dressing room as we see in so many clubs. Once the players down tools, that's it, that's the modern game.

I don't know if the players give a toss about morals or not, but as you say they do care about money and they will want someone to blame for not getting their promotion bonus and PL wages next year. That person is Tonda.

They probably also care about trust and being lied to (if that happened).

I hear what you say Nick, if the players want him gone, he is gone.

However if the shoe was on the other foot, what if a player is found guilty of simulation during a match either to obtain a penalty or get a player sent off that ultimately ends up with the team winning but the offending player being hauled all over the place, so we also ask for that player to be sacked? Will the players also continue to play the "injured" player trick in order to get a tactical time out, especially if things are not going well.

Mistakes are made. This is one of those mistakes, learn from it and move on as we are still waiting for the FA to have their say. Players and fans alike have lost money, we may even have lost staff as a result of the expulsion, but it does not hide the fact the outcome of the hearing was draconian, and did not meet the offence, not just my opinion, but also the opinion of a lot of others far more qualified than I am (see Karen Brady' column in the Sun on Saturday past for one instance).

It is time to change the narrative and take the fight back to them. We cannot change the finding of that hearing, but we can still put doubt into the hearing itself by looking at the panel members and how the information used in the hearing was obtained and how it was used in order to come to the draconian decision they did in the end.

I am still in the keep Tonda camp/team. My shirt says, "These colours do not run", you know what, "They never have, they never will". Time to put the big boys pants on now.

The time to take it to the hearing has passed. The club fvcked up by not declaring our guilt and focusing the debate on the appropriate penalty - and possibly by not challenging certain aspects of the hearing. It's done. Any challenge now has no legal basis (that I'm aware of) and will only piss off the authorities and leave us in limbo with no clear future, when we desperately need one.

Big boy pants now means facing up to reality and moving forward. I've read a lot about "cry baby Boro" and their whinging about what's already decided. I think we should be better than that and really we have no choice but to accept it and move on.

A lot of the anti-Saints stories currently being pumped out online every hour or so seem to emanate from someone called Declan Harte on Football League World. He seems to be the main instigator of these stories about unhappy Saints players supposedly taking legal action against the club, Tonda leaving for other clubs etc.

Authorities - would these be the same Authorities that Gibson threatened to sue if they did not agree to what he said should be the outcome of any hearing?

I accept that we cannot change the findings of the hearing, what we can do however as a club is change this "cheat" narrative. Every week you hear the same old chants, mainly in the Premier League I may add of "Same old (insert team) always cheating", usually after a player dives, or takes an supposed injury time out, or they have a wrestling match in the penalty area.

The "cheat" narrative will stay whilst we accept the draconian sentence. If we can put doubt in how that draconian sentence was achieved then the "cheat" narrative may well fade away. This just needs as good a PR spin after the event put on it, as good as Middlesborough' was prior to it.

I am hearing that the players want Tonda to stay. Peretz yesterday said "he loves the manager" and Matsuki apparently today saying he wants Tonda to stay. If the players want Tonda to stay, then unless he is banned, he should stay. Players clearly enjoy playing in Tonda's team, and they enjoy winning. Who knows if the players knew about the spying, knew the risks, whether they are upset with Tonda, upset with the EFL, upset with the junior intern for getting caught, who knows.

All I care about is watching an exciting, winning team. Tonda is.unlikely to spy again. He made a mistake. If the players want him, and we win our first game 3 nil, siege mentality, then that's fine with me. We don't need a whole load of upheaval, a new manager that needs time to find his best team, time to find his best formation, players in, players out, possibly the next Will Still comes in. Keep Tonda if we can.

Well

- we did cheat, so we can't change that
- that narrative won't fade as a result of us keeping it in the news
- tbh I don't really care what other fans chant, lets put our big boy pants on and not be so sensitive

That’s fair enough Southampton but what about if the same players get a chance to play in the Premier League as the better ones surely will over the summer ? They will be gone like a shot whatever they think of Tonda now.

Don’t also forget that Sports Republic will want to attempt to balance the books after a £58 million loss last time around particularly with the parachute payments reducing.

On the first day of the next season I’m expecting a completely different set of players compared to the season just finished.

We stand in the bin of embarrassment

Nothing changes and moves forward with the likes of cheat Eckert and club managament not up to the job still present.

Eckert clearly doesnt have the minerals for confrontation and will be abused non stop in every ground and the media.

The one thing I take issue with you Nick both in this piece and in a previous thread, is your dig at the fans again and about being hypocrites. What fan isn't at various times?

But, I was willingly chanting and supporting Eckert. We can only know what we know at the time and rightly or wrongly I still believed that despite the allegations Eckert and the team were taking us to Wembley so why wouldn't I support him/the team? You have complained bitterly before about the perceived lack of support from fans in the past.

I did not know the depth of the problem. I was not happy we may have been cheating, it is not for me what SFC stands for, though proportionately all teams cheat - what defines cheating? - falling to the ground when you feel the breath of a player, a goalkeeper who chooses to sit down in his box to stop the game, grabbing a few metres at throw in's, feigning injury, bending financial rules, VAR and officials being biased towards certain teams and decisions.

Whether Eckert knew the rules or not, what he did was wrong, but the noise, reaction and most of all the punishment was disproportionate. But, the SFC board, management, media, communications, whatever you call them handled the whole situation badly. At best they were and are still arrogant, at worst they are inept and incompetent. It is a bit like Cameron with Brexit - I didn't need to fight to remain because I knew the brexiteers would lose - our management stayed largely quiet and allowed MFC to dictate the agenda and the narrative because they just thought they would get a slap on the wrist and all would continue as if little had happened. Could you imagine Cortese just sitting back. You may not have liked him, but he had the media eating out of his hands, they respected him. The current SFC management, PR, Comms etc failed and are still failing miserably - the silence from them is deafening apart from a lame single sentence apology - yet it is us the fans that have to take all the brunt of this - the fans that you so under-rate.

But, getting back to my main point about supporting Eckert at the time. The thing that concerns me most out of his actions, is not the spying per se but the nature of the bullying of young interns. Will Salt's name has become synonymous with this saga. He is probably ruined. Other interns have mentioned feeling undue pressure and uncomfortable. It is not something I would ever do with my young apprentices. What sort of culture is that. Young, keen to make an impression, seeking a career. That is wrong plain and simple.

All that said, I think in the overall picture Eckert has been something we have needed for a long time. He brought an edginess, a winning mentality, never say die attitude and I am torn as to whether he should stay or go, though in the end it may all be decided for us. He is a young manager dragged out of the under 21's to steady a failing and under performing team. It was supposed to be temporary but he started turning the ship around and players that were possibly creating problems were shipped out and some new blood brought in. Finally SR and the manager appeared to be working for the betterment of the club. Eckert has great potential and I wanted him to take us up to the next level. So yes, I was proud to shout his name but I can't support the tactics he has used on young interns and possibly others to gain the information he was seeking (which has proven to not make that much difference). I honestly believe we would have made Wembley without the spying. MFC were largely a busted flush by the time the play-offs came. The scandal gave them some renewed energy for one first half of the home leg.

What concerns me is that this all drags on further and before you know it we are in August and the new season will be upon us and another season where we will not be ready. Do SFC management have a view, what is it, what are their plans now, what are the next steps, will fans who paid out to attend matches in good faith be rewarded somehow next season? Do they even care at all about us? I know football clubs no longer matter like they used to but they are usually quick to seek your money to renew your season ticket or membership.

I expect Saints are waiting to hear about any bans the FA will dish out. I also suspect Tonda may want to return to Germany but if both parties want him to stay then fine. Cantona Suarez and many others were banned for far worse offences and returned.

As I mentioned yesterday, the players are meeting the hierarchy tomorrow (Wednesday).

Guess we will get some sort of idea how they're feeling after the meeting and the general mood at the club... providing bits & pieces get leaked. Can't see Saints saying too much until after the FA inquiry - and that could be weeks away.

Let me try this one more time.

When it comes down to it, Solak will decide if the people found to have cheated are shit canned or not.

In making that decision he will likely want to hear thoughts from Ankersen, Parsons (assuming he's not culpable) and the cohort of Investors/Banks/Sponsors. He will obviously hear from the FA...he won't need to call them.

I doubt he has much interest in what Peretz thinks (or any other players for that matter) and somehow I doubt the fan's opinion is part of the equation either.

I wonder how many times Solak and Eckert have actually met??

I'm not the only one who thinks the views of the players will matter...

Solak may disapprove of TE so strongly that he sacks him. But if he wants him to stay and the players opposed that, then he would be making a mistake. Not saying they do oppose, but what they think should be taken into account if there is a decision to be made.

You are describing a decisive person who runs the Club with his own clear sense of direction.

I've never got that impression of him, and that fact that we are all still speculating a week after the decision against us and two weeks after the story broke, demonstrates dithering not single-mindedness.
