The start of this thread seems awfully familiar...mainly because you have said it a few times now.
Did Eckert perform a near miracle to get us into the play offs ? You bet he did.
Did Eckert then get found out for multiple breaches of the rules of the governing body ?. He did and admitted as much .Sounds like he might have contravened the Club' HR Policy too if bullying was involved.
Bear in mind that the bloke steering the Titanic helped to provide 1500 miles of trouble free cruising pleasure before he was involved in an unfortunate incident that took the gloss off the previous part of the cruise.
The core argument that the "only" rules broken were the silly old EFL ones and his actions would have been ignored by UEFA and FIFA doesn't hold much water.
It's like a bloke who just got the death penalty in Texas describing his sentence as bullshit on the grounds they don't have capital punishment in the UK.

We go to football to see Saints win don't we? I agree with Nick's sentiments.
Tonda is a winner. We are on a 22 game unbeaten run. We won games by 3, 4 and 5. Exciting, attacking, aggressive football.
This is football, our entertainment at the weekend. Not my day to day family life. I want to see Saints win. Tonda gave someone a pair of binoculars and told him firmly to get some inside information, because he is obsessed with Saints winning. He didn't murder anyone. He won't make the same mistake again.
Do I want a new, weak, squeaky clean manager like Will Still, who is bloody useless? No, I don't. Yes, Tonda was a naive idiot, but people make.mistakes. This doesn't have to be teriminal. I can get over the fact that Tonda made a mistake because he is desperate for my club to win games. I want more of the same wiining football, so yes I want him to stay. I don't watch Saints to be morally superior. I want us to win.
I look forward to the Saints fans enjoying a morally superior manager, who encourages world peace and encourages veganism to save the environement, but Saints get slaughtered every week on the pitch. Just remember why we go to football. Who is the best man for the job, not the most moral.

Sometimes in life you have to have a bit about you a bit of ruthlessness a bit of nastiness . Nicey nicey people often fail in life ( not always ) Ferguson wasn’t a nice bloke nor is Pep and we’re about to find this out when these allegations against City come to the surface. I’m enjoying being a fan of a club who isn’t very well liked. I’d rather win something than be well liked. Yes he cheated and caught but cheating is rife throughout the game it doesn’t make it right but it’s everywhere.
Let Tonda say his piece, listen to what he says then go from there . We’re only human we all make mistakes and everyone deserves a second chance. I couldn’t give a monkeys what other fans or so called jumped up experts say about saints .

If the guy felt pressurised why did he turn down the Ipswich job as such, he didnt feel pressurised to do that one, but didnt feel he could turn down the Boro job a week or so later, there is something strange there and we have to consider that in his evidence he was trying to save his own skin and make it look like he was forced to do it.

The players are meeting the club officials today by all accounts. Hopefully we'll get some small idea of what's what and a little clarity about where they stand on the matter.

I'd rather be called cheats and win, than not be called cheats and lose. The away fans will probabaly shout cheats even if Tonda isn't here. All pantomime. And calling us cheats might even wake up a few of our sleepy fans and make the atmospheres better.

Other clubs will look on with astonishment at how quickly some fickle and credulous Southampton fans have turned on the man who delivered a successful season only months after it looked like a fight to stay in the division. And now you think he "bullied" that poor little boy, the same boy whose monumental stupidity led to this entire debacle. The "bullying" is pure speculation but you have latched onto it with the fervour that Middlesbrough fans exhibited calling for Southampton to be thrown out. If Southampton had been fined half a million but won the final I wonder if you would still think that Eckert had destroyed his legacy and that the poor little boy had been bullied? For me, the question on Tonda's future comes down to: what is the best thing for the club? If we will be in a better place in 3 years time by keeping Tonda, then we should keep him, if we have that choice. If not, let him go. In 3 years time, the incident itself will be mostly forgotten. The cheating, the consequences of it and (I believe) the lies since then are all black marks against him, but none of it is totally unforgiveable.
I think the most likely answer is that we'll do better by keeping him, but it's not a certainty. For example, if it creates a split among the players, then that won't work out well. That and other questions are yet to be answered. And of course before we make a decision, we need to know where he stands with the FA.
Whatever the outcome of this, ironically despite him causing all the problems, Tonda will be fine. If he goes, he will be given plenty of offers and even if he gets banned by the FA, that ban can only apply in England. I think he'll succeed next year wherever he is because he's a good manager. Looking back in a year's time, we might see that he has come out of this a lot better than SFC, even though he was the one who was at fault. | | | |
