Does anyone know how you get started finding a care home for someone?
My father-in-law lives on his own,and I pop over for a few hours every day but he keeps falling over,and I haven’t got the strength to pick him up on my own,so obviously the situation can’t continue.
Do I contact the council or the doctors first?

An update on my FIL.He went into a private care home today for 2 weeks for respite care as he was getting weaker by the day.
We will review the situation next week,but at £1800 a week,it’s looking like an expensive life style change if he stays there permanently. | | | |

My mums was £7000 a month but that was offset a bit by her pension and attendance allowance, it was about £5000 net, she went in with a 3 month life expectancy, she went on strike, refused all her medication, refused to get out of bed so was unable to walk after about a month, she had dementia, in the end she lived for 3 years and the cost to her was about 100K. |  |

As said my mate has moved to his mums for Thursday to Sunday. He is at his work and living in his home in Cardiff otherwise.
Carers in morning, afternoon and evening and he has set up cameras in his mums home, so he can see if ahe has had a fall on his phone, but she has only had a couple of tumbles over a long period so maybe not at the level your FiL is Stownarket. She also wears a chain that can press a button that alerts medical staff if she has had a fall also.
Its saving him money currently as a temporary solution. [Post edited 8 Jun 22:10]

Can I just say..... whatever thoughts go through your mind now or in the future be assurred you've been an absolute hero for the man and undoubtably done your absolute best.
It is probably up there as a huge concern for me and my missus as each year passes as we have no kids and therefore at the mercy of the state possibly.
This is why I'm in favour of a Logans Run appraoch to it all !!!!!!
I'm also giving VERY serious consideration to early retirement.
I can't really afford it but can I really afford not to in terms of enjoying as much of my latter years as possible? We've not got extravagant tastes and running budgets at the moment to see if we can.
Both of us have already put formal Advanced Directives in place and lodged them with our GP's - basically DNR's if x, y or z happens.
To reinforce my earlier point - absolute fair play to you.
The mere fact you started this thread looking for advice proves you were/are spreading your wings far and wide to see what you can do for the best for your FIL.
There are vast swaves of our society now who do not give a flying for the elderly and I've never understood that.... it's something we all strive to be!!!!
