I think you will find it was Everton who had to sell youth players such as Ellis Simms and Tom Cannon in order to comply with the end of June PSR deadline a few years back.
Another year they balanced the bullshit books by ‘swapping’ Irogbunem one Dobbin to Villa for 10 million to comply with it. Certainly in the case of Irogbunem, he is with considerably more now.

Their approach seems right to me. Should a club like Hull assume they'll be promoted and so include promotion bonuses in their budget? I think not. Better for them to spend up to the limit to give themselves the best chance of promotion and then, if they are promoted, deal with the problem when it happens by selling players. They could/should have paid the players the bonus in July, but that’s being picky. It’s ridiculous if they get punished for this, but it wouldn’t surprise me with that bellend Masters seemingly trying to show how the PL can sort its own house out by bullying smaller clubs and allowing the likes of City and Chelsea to do whatever they want.
It will be interesting to see how they bend the rules to allow United’s high interest finance terms in the coming seasons. No doubt they will turn a blind eye. | | | |

I was at that game and it was a mess. Wimbledon looked like they didn’t want to be there from the first minute, but were 2 up inside the first few minutes, through a shocking handball (Limpar almost caught it) and a calamitous own goal. Everton were given a penalty when Limpar committed the worst dive I’ve seen. After the third goal, Everton could have scored a few more as Wimbledon players were all congregated on the Main Stand side of the ground. I remember seeing John Fashanu on the touch line, shouting at the players telling them to get ready to get off the pitch. It was nuts. | | | |
