I read this week that Belgium and Blues is also to close.
I always felt that Rachel Reeves' insane first Budget in October 2024 was a death knell for a large chunk of the hospitality sector, and it has played a part in the downfall of her boss. And I have voted Labour at the last four elections.

I read this week that Belgium and Blues is also to close.
I always felt that Rachel Reeves' insane first Budget in October 2024 was a death knell for a large chunk of the hospitality sector, and it has played a part in the downfall of her boss. And I have voted Labour at the last four elections.
Not that that Budget helped the care home sector either.... |

It's Labour's last throw of the dice.
They are hoping that Burnham can have the same impact as Johnson did for the Tories, somebody who (rightly or wrongly) people feel that they can relate to.
They were also forced to go with somebody who had no connections with Mandelson, which ruled out Streeting and a number of other Cabinet members.
It might just work for them.
I think Johnson had similarly spent much of his time before becoming Tory leader outside Government, as Mayor of London. | |

And those backing him (inc the guy who "stood down" for him to take that Makerfield seat and you can probably add Streeting to this list now) no doubt will get decent jobs with a decent pay rise in his new cabinet

I know he poses a serious threat to your beloved Conservative Party, but you'd have been beaten by Reform anyway, and how much experience do they have?

Gales HSB and huge Pasties or Samosa's. Great Juke Boxes upstairs and downstairs.
Often drank in there on nonmatch days, virtually the only place in town you could get Gales HSB.
