Has Burnham focussed yet on the National debt? 23:07 - Aug 6 with 11911 viewsReslovenSwan1

With out doubt one of the biggest issues is national debt. It is currently hitting £3 Trillion. (A Trillion is a thousand billion.) £3,000,000,000,000. For each citizen the debt is £43,000 and growing.

The debt really kicked on after the £500 billion bankers bail out of 2009 when it was less than £1 Trillion.

The second spike was the Covid related borrowing for furlough and infrastructure etc 2020 -2021.

I do not know what Burnham's priorities are but if it is not reducing the deficit and then debt then he is just fiddling on the roof while the house burns beneath him.

When Starmer tried to trim the budget his Chancellor was seen sobbing n the House of Commons after folding to MP pressure. He has no election for 3 years so should take unpopular decisions and cut the deficit first and then the debt.

Reform and Plaid in the Senedd is concentrating on Gender definition. If Wales went independent our share of the debt would be £150 billion. (5% of the total debt)

UK interest payment of this debt annually is £110 billion. (including my premium bond winnings)

In the midst of all this Marxist shortarse Commie Corbett has vowed to increase foreign aid by £13 Billion.

A comparison in real life is that you have Debt Collectors hammering on your front door while you're sat on your doley arse inside buying a load of sh/te you don't need off QVC...

The a-holes running this country into the ground want shooting, they really do...

They're not running the country they are drowning the country in debt, because they are totally clueless and massively out of their depth, can anyone name a proper politicians worth their salt these days, I'm 65 and I've seen more than few in my life time, but I can't see any these days they're all career politicians concentrating on their own ambitions, that's all Starmer did until he inevitably crashed and burned, Burnham will go down the same route, I guarantee it.

Our tax money funds the lavish lifestyles of Government workers that are high up in Council's, NHS, police and teaching, we can't afford their salaries or gold plated pensions, pensioner's are on poor money and need to be paid more.

Rumours that Burnham is going to hike CGT.

Problem 1per cent of CGT payers account for about 5O percent of CGT paid. These are the guys who can find their way around CGT or defer gains.

Pensioners has plenty of time to save and build up pension pots. £100pcm for 40 years would do it. The £1000 pcm is more than enough.

It f you save nothing rely in the stat then fyoy should not expect a good lifestyle to be fully funded by the taxpayer .

People refuse to see pensions as a benefit even though it takes up about half of the welfare bill.

Isn't the distinction most people draw that between non-contributory benefits and contributory benefits, with the latter requiring beneficiaries to accumulate credits or make payments over many years to establish eligibility?

Spot on. There's an enormous and obvious difference between decades of contributions as part of a contract and receiving benefits having contributed nothing.

A good point well made, 70 percent of OAPs pay income tax. They are still contributing.

OAPs contribute 30 billion pounds in UK tax.

In April my tax code was adjusted on one of my pensions to collect the tax off my state pension, because the system currently can't collect tax from your state pension. If you paid NI before a certain date your pension is above the tax threshold.

I've paid tax and NI since I was 18, I'll be paying tax until I die, because I've saved into a private pension, it's a fact of life I don't object to that what I do object to is patronising progressive types asking to rebalance the system so those who are capable of working and don't get more.
The morons don't realise that by paying people more in benefits than they can get by working will lead to a distortion of the system where less and less taxpayers fund people who do not contribute at all.
I know it's a Marxist route to equality where everyone has nothing but the dumb ass jerks can't see it.

Some benefits are taxable. Some are not.

Personally I would make them all taxable. Someone getting £20k pa in benefits should be paying the same amount of tax as someone earning the same.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

In this instance it doesn't change the fact that the state pension is part of the overall welfare bill.

You do seem to have a problem with pensioners i paid in for 42 years and I certainly dont class it as a benefit more should be done against claimants who have never worked a day in their life

I really don't.

I just feel it needs to be made clear that the state pension isn't a savings scheme that you get out relates to what you've paid in.

It also needs recogntion that the aging population puts real pressure on the system.

It needs to be clear when you start paying in, when I started the belief was you paid in and got a pension to see you through old age.

It was fine until we started living longer and the post war babies started to retire, all predictable, lack of strategy got us here and lack of guts will prolong the issues we have with the welfare bill.

Because it’s not a benefit it’s an agreement between the payee and government that monies paid in will be returned on retirement age , are you willing to give up yours for the good of the country ? , not everyone has the luxury of index linked private pensions or a decent pay to put money aside for their futures . This country was built on the sweat and hard work of people who paid compulsorily paid into a scheme , if they opted out then that’s their lookout but the majority didn’t .You say it takes up half the welfare bill but it’s not the other half who’ve paid into the system , just taken from it.
