Good to see Eric Cantona speak out against Ratcliffe and say that he wouldn’t have signed for Man United if Ratcliffe had been a major shareholder back then. ( Well, maybe a bit too easy to make a statement like that but Cantona was always an unusual footballer and I suspect that he did ( and does ) have principles and blah blah.
Not that I didn’t hate him after THAT game - in the season we went down under Ray Wilkins . I was seated behind the home goal in the loft and we were leading 1-0 ( forget who scored ) and United were piling on the pressure and the referee allowed 6 minutes ( in those days unheard of…) minutes of injury time and with sinking hearts all around and notwithstanding a desperate defence, Cantona scored ( I think it was in the 93rd or 94th minute but it was a long time ago). I worry that criticising high earners will get us nowhere.It is a delicate balancing act.Income tax is so bias against high earners that the top 10% of earners pay something like 60-70% of all income tax.When the revolut bank founder left for Dubai recently his tax bill was the equivalent of 50,000 median earners.
This is serious as if the international money markets stop lending to the uk as we are considered a bad risk then the actual vulnerable -the disabled and fragile old will be left to suffer while the haters of the rich are demonstrating in the streets.
The secret is to sort it before the crunch.Yes perhaps tax the rich a little more,pay for the NHS later like they do in some European countries by direct health insurance with the state,but do not hate them and spit envy bile.I suspect you would have to live a thousand lifetimes to match what Radcliffe has paid in tax to the UK.
Encourage , have a system with incentives.I am old now and have seen socialism go to far again and again in the name of doing good.It always ends in the same anger filled hateful way when the money runs out.You have to earn the money first then perhaps you can help the poor-don’t end up taking money off the almost poor to help the undeserving. Where has not criticising them got us?The poor have got poorer while the super rich have seen their wealth increase many times over.
Public services have been systematically run down over years and the country is on its knees.The super rich should be made to pay a certain percentage of their massive wealth in taxes.Some of them earn more in a week than the average Joe earns in a lifetime.
They could never spend their fortunes in several lifetimes,let alone one.
Some of them just want to run off with the ball when asked to share it a bit.Pure greed in my eyes. |  | | |
