Shepherd and Flock 20:26 - Dec 11 with 4685 viewsFFC1

Quite a few 'old school' Fulham fans (i.e. ordinary blokes rather than coked up Danny Dyer wannabes who drink in the Hop Poles or Durrell Arms) go for a drink in the Shepherd and Flock prior to QPR away.

Is this a decent mix of home and away normally or is it mainly an away pub? We went to the bounds green or somewhere last year but now considering options for Saturday. What do you reckon's a good one to go to?

General Smuts is good, right next to the away end too.

'The General Smuts was a supremely scary place, located in the midst of the White City estate. Barely a night went by without a knife fight or someone being injured outside it. I used to work at the General Smuts at the time of the fall of the Berlin Wall which seemed appropriate as its location made the staff feel as if they were in a West Berlin surrounded by the dangerous East Germany of the White City estate. Each night I would have to take a different route ot work, yet still regularly had bottles chucked at my head. The second largest pub in London, its bars curiously divided precisely on ethnic grounds, with the public bar always being 99% West INdian and the Saloon bar being 99% Irish. In between its two bars, there was an off licence which I used to run and quite successfully - by giving the customers charm, something that they hadn't had at the pub for years, I ended up with queues up the street for people coming in to buy their kids a chocolate bar along with their cans of hard liquor. The unique feature of the off licence was that even if someone had been barred from the pub or anywhere else, they were always welcome in the off licence. I had people attack the three inch thick oak pillars that divided me from the public with clubs and baseball bats on more than one occasion. On the most part however, people were keen to remain calm as it was the absolutely last place left for many alcoholics where they could buy their booze. One evening, they held a romany wedding reception - the evening deteriorated so badly that it ended with two van loads of riot police turning up to drive them off the estate like some Medieval army.'

Looks good!

Oi. No. Piss off. It's a home pub. And my sodding pre & post match haunt.

Absolutely heaving pre-Villa and quite raucous.

In all seriousness, it's always had Rs fans but up to this season not exactly full and you would get the odd away fans drinking in there fine. However, a few pubs have closed in the area and it's very Rangers now. Landlord is trying to make it more of a Rangers pub too. I wouldn't advise Fulham drink there, tbh.

I know quite a few who went before and after the game last year who have recommended it- mostly 40s and 50s who probably wouldn't stand out as away fans other than they wouldn't be wearing colours of either team

It's about the size of a shed. So get there early before the Fulham lot take all the space.

When I say 'quite a few' I only mean about 15-20 relatively normal people, not the sort who crave the buzz of a police escort from Hammersmith

To be fair, I can't deny we have a bit of this element. Check out this video at around 7:15 and an old guy saying 'we must beware of hubris'!

That said, you accuse us of attracting tourists but check out the crew of lads at around 3-4 minutes!

I know I'm conforming to stereotype a bit here but I was actually standing near Hugh Grant at Chelsea away last year- but the answer's no!

Also, although Hugh Grant is not a typical Fulham fan, did you know he stumped up the cash to buy Robbie Herrera off you in the early 90's? Makes him a bit of a legend even though he doesn't represent Fulham fans in general

If they just want a drink they will be fine but if I was them I wouldn't advertise the fact they are Fulham fans

FFC1, sorry, was I mistaken, weren't you asking a question? Or you just excited to be able to tell everyone Fulham are going to 'take a pub'.

15-20! The pub only holds about 70 odd people at absolute most. Last week it was full (ie. you could not move...it took 5 min to get from one end of the pub to the other and it's only 15 yards long!).

I'll only be there with a couple of mates, but it's a quite a different pub and clientele to last year. There's a group of lads there each week who I think might well be of the 'coked up' variety.

All I'm saying, is if the group of mates you're talking about aren't looking for trouble then I'm just suggesting it might be a good idea to avoid the Shepherd and Flock.

If they want trouble, well, they're d*ckheads. And they could find more if they headed to one or two other places?

Having said all this, you're right, get they're early if your determined to go. 15-20 people simply won't fit in the pub after about 1pm!

O'Neills, Walkabout are the main away pubs. Not sure about the Raving Buddha. Could try The Richmond too.

To be honest, the one pub that would suit Fulham fans down to the ground is The Defector's Weld. They don't want football fans in there pre-game anymore, but there's no way they'll tell with Fulham fans! Wahey!

70 people in the Shepherd and Flock!? You'd need a tin opener to get them all out.
