I know nothing about him, but we need another player in that position and if he is decent and we can sign him on a short term/seasons contract - good move!

Exactly how many waifs and strays do we have just hanging around the training ground at the moment?
I've just dug my old boots out of the loft and I'm popping down there this afternoon fro my shot at the big time. I'm only 44 so will fit in with the current youth policy perfectly

I was down there yesterday. They were handing out tickets with numbers on them at the entrance. I was number 28. It was a bit like the scene in the film "Blazing Sadles" when they were signing up the worst criminals they could find.
You said rape twice?........I like rape! Sign him up.
Smells like a trout farm in here

My Hearts and QPR-supporting nephew Robbie just emailed me about this;
"I just came across this news story and I am absolutely delighted: Zaliukas came to Hearts 6 years ago and progressed into one of the finest centre halves Hearts have ever had with the peak of his career coming as he captained us to a 5-1 triumph in the Scottish Cup final against Hibs and even shed a tear when he lifted the cup. He grew to love the club and the fans grew to love him. He spent a grand at our auction last season to raise money to keep the club going until the end of the season - a lot for an SPL player. Unfortunately, given our financial situation, we could afford his wages and last week he was training with Sevco Scottish The Rangers and I was dreading the thought he'd sign. If he signs I'll have his name on the back of my QPR top in a heart beat. To see him in the premiership next season would be incredible. He was outstanding against Liverpool. Very powerful in the air, great leader, just don't let him dribble too much! "

to be fair, we couldn't be more convenient for Heathrow if we tried, so ideal all round for incoming/outgoing players, agents and all ITK hangers on like Hayesboy (Hi Mark )

So he can be our backup Richard Dunne then!

I'm also a Hearts and disagree almost entirely with this post.
Yes, big Zal is a character so the fans liked him, but he's an absolute bomb scare. Every HMFC fan I knows agree with me. Can dominate for 89mins of a game but always has a mistake in him.
To call him one of the finest CH's HMFC have ever had is an insult. He skippered the Club to the 5-1 but that doesn't make him a good player.
Any half-decent player HMFC (or any other Scottish Club at that) gets snuffled out by Celtic, Rangers or an English Club. The fact he's been without a Club since the end of last season. No one wanted to sign him when he was with us, and only Rangers showed interest now he's a free agent. And even then they said no.

We need Karl's opinion, he's probably the only one on here who watches Scottish 'football'..!!!
Cheers JD, somehow I don't think that's entirely a compliment! lol
As a Hibs fan I tend to agree with the latter Hearts opinion of him. Strong and committed but gives away shocking amount of penalties and freekicks. He was paid a huge amount (circa £8k week) compared to his quality and the SPL average so that was the main reason he stayed at Hearts imo and ran his contract down as there may well have been interest in him but not at a comparable wage to what he was earning. To fit in with our profile of signing players he sustained a (knee I think) ligament injury two thirds of the way through last season and hasn't to my knowledge played a competitive game yet. If we signed him as back up for our Championship season then I would say he would be ok but forget any ambition of playing him in PL
