I just read this month’s when saturday comes,and they have a feature on the American soccer league in the 1926-27 season.
The league was won by Bethlehem steel from the Boston wonder workers.Also in the league were the New Bedford whalers,Indiana flooring,providence clamdiggers,j&p coats and the Springfield babes,who finished bottom of the league.

The early NFL in the 1920s also had some peculiar names - the Decatur Staleys (??? - now the Chicago Bears), Rochester Jeffersons, Columbus Panhandles and Dayton Triangles, not forgetting the Akron Pros (yuk, yuk).
