| Sad to see Jack DeJohnette go on 19:40 - Nov 4 by colinallcars | Just read his obit in the Times. Amazingly he was originally a joanna player and only started drums when a friend left his kit in Jack's basement. Also a story that he wrote Stormy Monday and sold it to T Bone Walker for $50. I don't think I believe that bit though. |
T-Bone Walker recorded Stormy Monday in 1947, so if that story is true, Jack (born 1942) would have had to be five when he wrote and sold it. Apparently he did appear on stage with T-Bone at the age of five playing the kazoo, which, along with the piano, was an early favourite instrument (according to the Daily Telegraph obit). | |
