It's always important to talk when life is becoming unbearable. Its good that Clarke Carlisle speaks out on these matters, especially as he has suffered the extremes.

Effectively, he has been a very successful man, professional footballer, broadcaster, public speaker, political commentator, very intelligent man, married with a nice supportive wife and yet with all that he has felt the depths.

Can happen to anyone. Remember Kenny Sansom talking about his addiction issues. Very powerful words. Obviously any right thinking person wouldnt wish any other person to feel this way at all.

The first person that an individual opens up to, is the hardest.

There is no weaknesses at all in admitting right now that is exactly what you are, weak and not functioning and in need of some kind of help or understanding.

I have had my moments and am sure many on here have and yes in particular men wouldnt necessarily be that open to chatting openly about their emotions and especially if they were extreme and the words "Man Up", "Be Strong Man" ring loud, and in football its still a bit of a closed shop regards this, so hope Clarke Carlisle amongst others, being so open, can help others so they dont plummet to terrible stresses and strains and can get better.

The video Norwich City put out advert Samaritans rings true. Sometimes it is the man or woman thats the life and soul, the one you least expect thats the one you never knew about and they were the ones that needed to open up the most.

There's a group that I found out about called Andys Man Club, ironically when I was walking up to a game down South Africa Road on the way to a game, they were handing out bands with their charity name on and I found out on Monday evenings 7pm to 9pm in many different areas that they hold sessions in local community centres and its facilitated by men that the service has helped. They have free tea, coffee, cake and biscuits and then split into smaller groups and people can talk, listen or just be there and know its helped loads. Set up after a young man ended his life sadly and set up by his best mate and the young man's mum.

Its all over the country now, which is incredible.

Anyhow, will just leave the website here. They do a brilliant job, so that no man has to feel completely alone with what's going on underneath. Most that go, it helps massively in their recoveries knowing that they are not the only one.

Good luck to Clarke and others. Black dog as its been called isn't great in anyways but it doesnt have to be the way. Glad he speaks out.

Won’t quote for space reasons but just to say nice one, Numpty, and thanks for your valuable input. So important to keep highlighting these issues.

A chap at our tennis club in south London took his own life almost four years ago to the day. An outwardly successful musician, a series of awful, unpredictable incidents (not helped by Covid lockdowns) combined to tip his already fragile state of mind over the edge and he just couldn’t cope.

It still shocks me to the core (I can’t imagine how much worse it is for his close friends and family) so Clarke’s advocacy (yours too, Numpty!) can only be a good thing.

No worries TwoHalves

I remember when heard aboit Gary Speed. Was stunned. A succesful.player, a succesful manager, and what seemed to be a lovely supportive family. No one really knew. He was on football focus that morning and was chatty to all and very polite and friendly. Something unknown to all around him, that he never divulged.

Lost my aunt on the.day of my sisters 21st birthday, and saw the impact it had on my dad at the time. Unfortunately, many will be aware of someone, but hopefully it becomes less and less common in years ahead.
