An expert on balls required on 14:51 - Jan 27 with 732 views | PinnerPaul | Current law The ball is: - spherical - made of leather or other suitable material - of a circumference of not more than 70 cm (28 ins) and not less than 68 cm (27 ins) - not more than 450 g (16 oz) and not less than 410 g (14 oz) in weight at the start of the match - of a pressure equal to 0.6 — 1.1 atmosphere (600 — 1,100 g/cm2 ) at sea level (8.5 lbs/sq in — 15.6 lbs/sq in) Not sure what you mean by "changed the regulations", which part do you think changed? Cheers

Presumably he's talking of the infamous season the FA attempted to use the triangle ball sponsored by Quality Street.
An expert on balls required on 14:56 - Jan 27 with 722 views | PinnerPaul | Also found this - something, although its not clear what!, changed in 1996 1996 Law II - The Ball As per requirements of FIFA Denominations as set forth in Decision 4 of the IFAB
An expert on balls required on 18:39 - Jan 27 with 642 views | Boston | Thanks for the info, took me a couple of minutes to read as I started laughing at spherical! My reason for asking was due to a conversation myself and a few other London born, construction, working classs(you got it, no Fulham),types, were having concerning footballs. I confess to being in the wrong, thinking that balls were heavier years ago when in fact the real change has been in material, its non absorbent and aerodynamic therefore appearing to be lighter when in reality the modern day ball starts the game with exactly the same specifications as in my day. Nobody here is aware of anything happenig re specs in '96. [Post edited 27 Jan 2017 18:41]

No worries. 1996 is taken from FIFA web site, but suspect it was probably saying they had to be officially "approved" or something like that. [Post edited 27 Jan 2017 19:38]

I remember the mitre/ quality street triangle fiasco. Teams like Wimbledon who played the long ball game would use a toblerone instead. Crazy stuff. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
