When was the last time we beat a team from a higher division at home? 22:36 - Sep 21 with 2213 views | PeterHucker | I remember being at Villa Park for Damion Stewpeas Stewart's brilliant header and I'm sure that was the last time we beat a team from a higher division in a Cup game? But when was the last time we did it at home? I thought it might've been 1-0 v Palace in 1982 but not sure if they were in the first or second division at that time?

When was the last time we beat a team from a higher division at home? on 22:55 - Sep 21 with 2062 views | ManinBlack | I think the OP wants to know when we last won at home against a higher division side and I can't remember. I recall winning at Middlesbrough, Villa and Sheffield United but home victories feels like a lifetime ago.

I don't think there is!!! To be fair we have been top flight for nearly half the seasons since then. And sh*t for most of the others.

Very true. We appear to have deliberately chucked ties against lower division teams to make early exits to get 3 points in the next mid table league game. Either we are out by the time the Premier league teams get involved or we get another championship team who knock us out in the third round so we rarely play a Premier team at home.
When was the last time we beat a team from a higher division at home? on 23:53 - Sep 21 with 1771 views | 05452201 | I reckon that’s right. Home to Derby FA Cup 5th round Feb 1970. So over 50 years since we last beat a higher division team at home in a cup. That is ridiculous!

But the truth is from 1973 to 79 and 1982 to 1997 we were not in a position to beat a higher division side. Since 1997 we are usually out of the league Cup having lost to Rochdale, Plymouth, Swindon or whoever in the first couple of rounds. As I previously said we usually get a championship team in the third round of the FA Cup who knock us out. On that basis it is difficult to get a home tie with a Premiership team if you rarely get past round 3.
