£2bn.... 15:05 - Aug 25 with 2908 views | PlanetHonneywood | Reading on the Beeb, Premier League clubs' spending expected to exceed £2bn with a week to go before the transfer window closes! Last summer nearly hit £2bn, and I don't think it takes into account Tombola of Chelsea and others, January shopping spree. Utterly obscene situation. I'd sincerely hope that if we got promoted, QPR would do a Luton and not a QPR of yore, and spunk millions on tossers.

Just as well then that our owners don't run airlines then isn't it.
£2bn.... on 16:08 - Aug 25 with 2677 views | Logman | Its madness. Chelsea are now spending multi-millions of £'s on players who will never feature in their team due to the numbers of players they have. Makes no footballing or business sense whatever. Mr Creosote strategy.
£2bn.... on 16:32 - Aug 25 with 2595 views | LimehouseR | Just another indication of how much bigger the gap is now for the mega rich and the rest of us. Another reason I have fast grown out of love with the sport. I note on the other thread regarding India spending what seems like a lot of money on landing on the moon. Seriously, it is nothing to what the money elite have to play with in our society. A lot of people can barely afford a half decent weekly shop let alone a ticket to a match these days.

Like a lot of blokes of a certain vintage, I too couldn't give a monkey's cuss about football or to be more precise, the business that surrounds and has totally polluted the game. I've enjoyed watching the women's game over the last eight years, but it's noticeable how shithousery has crept in and it won't be long before that gets ruined too! A few years ago, I was back for the Christmas and finally went to a North Greenford United match. Loved it! Subsequent trips to Greenford-sur Quay, and I've ambled up there, and it feels like I'm going to a football match, not a huge rip-off. Can't recommend going to non-league football highly enough.

£2bn.... on 20:31 - Aug 25 with 2303 views | ManinBlack | We had all the talk during covid and games played in empty stadiums about football needing to reassess about the money spent on stuff like transfer fees and bringing it down. All very quickly forgotten after covid as the Premier league spending just continues to grow.
£2bn.... on 21:18 - Aug 25 with 2268 views | derbyhoop | Newcastle have spent 160m, according to Geordie mate. My response i Was we couldn't afford 160k. Although that was probably 159k more than we've got to spend.

To be fair I've probably spent more on fixing my leaky kitchen roof this year than QPR's transfer budget

Pointless saying the same old thing and bemoaning certain clubs for they're vast wealth, we've got nothing but ourselves at QPR, our worn out old ground and players and toilets etcetera--etcetera and that's fine by me. How long before there are two Premiership leagues? one for the amount of league points amassed and one for the amount of cash your respective owners have stashed in their piggy banks. I don't get angry about It anymore, I've given up, let them sail away into the distance. Jim White or someone else from Sky will be along soon displaying his or her skills at over acting.

Agree with every word but….. I actually do think there will be a watershed moment however it’ll be the smaller clubs effected the most. Can see League Two etc becoming part time The gravy train will move. I was really hoping the Super League would gather legs and they’d all feck off and leave the rest of us to it. Now it looks like the next step will be a competition linking Europe’s “elite” and the Saudi oilers……. formalising clear links already there. When they go they’ll pull the ladder up with them and that suits me just fine. I’d hope football in this country could reinvent itself to something more akin to a level playing field whilst allowing ambitious owners to invest in their clubs but not saddle them with debt. I’d also like to see cross European competitions reestablished where they mean more than bank balances. A return of the Intertoto Cup — lower league teams being able to compete against other countries lower league teams and fans a chance to travel in a meaningful competition. Then it’ll all be ruined by money n greed so what’s the point I suppose?? Football innit

It's somewhat ironic that the word to convey my concurrence with you and Edward Hendrix contains within it, the very word that underpins everything that's wrong in football and life: AGREED. And as with all these things, one day it will eat itself by which stage, we probably won't give two hoots.

Spot on with the women's game. Shithousery was pretty evident during the world cup. Spain feigning injury several times towards the end of the final was an obvious example but Chloe Kelly deliberately walking the ball back on after it had been replaced towards the end v Australia was another example. Knew she would get booked, didn't care. This will only get worse as the money increases and there's more at stake. The likes of Italy and South Amercian countries are not serious players yet but will be and will bring all of their dark arts with them.

As the American influence in sports in this country increases I'd be more concerned about attempts to remove promotion/relegation across the whole pyramid so everyone stays in their lane and those at the top can solidify their revenues from never having to worry about getting relegated and losing it all. And you'd end up with what you have in American sports where there is still various tiers of sport, but no-one can move between them and all the smaller tier teams just end up being owned by, or at the very least feeders to, the big ones. That would be the real death knell.

I won't give two hoots either because I will be dead by the time it ever implodes. Sad but probably true...
