Well what farce of an ending. It probably would've been different with Madsen, Kone, Burrell etc taking penalties but plus ca change.
Some positives though:
Charles's distribution is off the scale...gave us so many attacking options. I'll tuck his howler for the goal in the pending tray and put it down to just one of those things.
Thought we looked a very controlled and fluent side just not killer enough in the final third, always seemed to be one pass too many.
Kemper looked very solid and looks like he could be a great signing.
Kone's hold up play was good as always.
Jimmy and Handsome looked mostly in control against the colossal forwards.
Most important of all, no obvious injuries (think Smyth is fine - he was standing near me when came off to watch the rest of the match and seemed so).
Burrell never really got going and seemed to be out on the wing which he didn't seem comfortable with. Chair was giving it everything throughout but not much coming off for him.
And for god's sake how can we not beat the first man time and time again on set pieces. I'm sure i could, and i'm crap.
All in all, i view it as a proper workout and Stephane hopefully has learnt plenty. I don't really care too much about getting knocked out on pens in the first round of the league cup. Enjoyed it enough and topped up the tan.

Pretty much agree on most of this.
Burrell looked a bit out of sorts on the right.
Thought Vale had a poor game - especially his dead balls and shooting.
Varane and Alfie looked decent when they came on - I think Alfie is unpredictable both to the opposition and himself at times...
We deserved more from the game, we were the better side and there were plenty of positives.
If we can keep this lot free of injuries and have the additions of Lamptey and Kamara, there is the basis of a really good side.... |  | | |

The shootout was frustrating, but a freak event. At least 3 of the players subbed off are ahead in the queue for 'normal' penalty takers. |  | | |
