I know will get a bit of stick for posting about an ex player who miserably failed to achieve here at Rangers and he never woild have done either.
But so far this season for Basel : -

6 goals 1 assist
Perhaps the one thing this transfer taught us, is we could get our fingers burned seeking out talent in the lesser european leagues - not always the case a la Madsen, but glad a majority of our players are hand picked from the British Leagues as opposed to the star strikers in Middle Europe.
We have had some stinkers from everywhere, haven't we? Anyone remember Adam Czerkas and Alessandro Pellicori?!?
But to be fair, we don't do brilliantly in the UK either - sure fire bets like Connor Washington disappointed, others like Mac Bonne were probably predictable. And this is just looking at strikers!
It seems like our recruitment is getting better now (praying hopefully), but I think we all long for the late 80s, early 90s when we were the ones picking and growing obscure players, much like Brighton and Brentford today.

To use one of those hoary old cliches, perhaps he's found his level.
Nothing to do with where he was playing when we signed him. I'm sure with a minute's research you could find numerous examples of players signed from foreign leagues who've thrived in the Championship.
It's a shame he got that injury when he was with us, it really felt like he had turned a corner. He was tosh for 90% of his time before his injury but that last 10% leaves me with this what if question. What if that through pass against Norwich wasn't booted at him at 200mph, maybe he would have gone on to be a good player, maybe he would have continued to be tosh, we will never know.

Didn't work out for us, we will never know what, if anything might have happened after he got his couple of goals and then got injured. Suspect he would do better in this team, as would most players.
Of course the reason he failed at Rangers could have nothing to do with his ability. He could have had language problems, difficulty settling in personally or his family. There’s a lot to factor in when buying from abroad.

He's onside, but that's because the defender tried to play him off way too late. Also, there are two of them, so there is no need to do that.
In addition, Celar almost misses it by playing it too far ahead of himself.
He was always a decent finisher, but you won't even get that sort of lame defending in the Champ, where it's a low block, he doesn't have Burrel's pace, cannot hold the ball up, and isn't a header of the ball.
He's found his level forever after.

I watched his youtube goals in the Swiss league before we signed him and a lot were similar to that with him running through on goal with no one anywhere near him, then a bit of a poor touch but the keeper is too slow coming out and a bit crap so he scores anyway.
Having said that I think after paying all that money we should have given him a bit more of a go.

A bit more of a go? 22 games of which he played only acceptably for 1.5 of them. Then his hamstring blew up. Then we got him a loan to a decent league where nothing happened that was positive.
Not sure what else we could have done really. Simply not good enough.

It does feel that when signing players from foreign leagues they need to be joining a team that is already doing pretty well to increase the hit rate, but also have experience of bringing them into the club. Swansea appear to be quite good at this.
Celar and Madsen joined a sh!t show and they both struggled. Madsen turned it around, Celar didn't, so a 50% hit rate isn't bad.

Absolutely this. It blows my mind how some fans think he'd "turned a corner" just because of a game in which he finally scored. We had enough of a sample size to show that the guy is just plain pony.

I think his partner had a baby not long after they arrived in England. Being away from friends and relatives at such a time might have been unsettling. Might.

Always seemed to me we asked him to play in a way tgat was just unsuitable for him. He needed to run on to things, not being a big basher up top.
That said, a total match for Dozzell in the lethargic looking stakes.
