The thing is no one knows the exact second so as there is always time wasting going on in injury time, so it would be best to either end the game before a corner or afterwards, not as the ball is travelling |

I don't listen to it on Solent as im usually at the match, so I don'tknow about his style of commentating although I have heard it sometimes.
My point was that few ex players would be ableto do his job as it is one thing to keep the commentary flowing and another to just be chipping in along the way as Jo Tessum is doing |

Ted Bates presided over an 8-0 defeat at Everton in November 1971 and then 7-0 at Leeds a few months later in the same season, yet he is one of our greatest managers.
Likewise Lawrie McMenemy lost 7-0 at Ipswich in 1974 and a 7-1 defeat to then second division Watford in a League cup game 2nd leg in 1980, he wasn't sacked either .
If arguably two of our best ever managers can suffer a few big defeats it shows that it sometimes isn't about the manager but a few freak things happening beyond their control, at least Ralph had two players send off in both those two games , the games i have mentioned were lost with the full 11 i seem to remember |

Yes we beat Pompey 2-1 in September 1974 with both goals from Peter Osgood eitherside ofa penalty equaliser from Saints legend Ron Davies.
Jim Steele was sent off in the 81stminute shortly after Osgoods winner.
I remember that a Saints fan invaded the pitch to remonstrate with the ref at one point as he was seen to be so biased against us.
I think the referee that day was Clive Thomas who was controversial at the time and he went on to referee the 1976 FA Cup final
In the 1978 World Cup he disallowed a winning goal for Brazil in the final minute of thegame by blowing for full time just seconds before it was headed home by Zico |

Just because we dont agree with his views sometimes doesn't make him a bad reporter.
If you look at commentary's you usually have two people, one is a trained journalist who is skilled in anchoring the coverage, has done the research on the teams and can keep things flowing even when there is a lull in play.
The other is usually an ex player who is good at coming in with a few observations throughout the game.
Few ex players would be able to do the anchor role without training |

1. The Northam fanzone was rammed, I know some don't like fanzones etc, but they play a part in the game and on Sunday the Northam one was buzzing, the two bands who played threw in a few Saints songs including a rousing version of "You dirty skate B*stards we f*ckin hate you" I was surprised the plu wasn't pulled.
2. Mark Dennis gave a rousing speech in the fanzone, again I don't think it would have been approved by the club, but the fans loved it. Rickie Lamert's was not quite in the same bracket but well received.
3. This was one of the loudest and best atmospheres at St Mary's
4. Good to see a packed Chapel end, I suspect that it might well become the next Itchen North with all the issues that occurred, meaning that the club will end up having to take action of some sort.

Went to see them last night at Papillon, very good live band which surprised me as their music is so laid back.
The frontman was very witting and entertaining and a packed house enjoyed it
Papillon is a decent live venue in between the Joiners and the Engine rooms in size and handy for the bus home etc.
I hadn't been there for 32 years when it was Cloisters I think, mind you it was closed or a restaurant for a lot of that

I saw him in the supermarket recently, he doesn't go to see Saints much these days, few up with the state of football rather than Saints I think
