Sylla night - Report

Great report Clive.

Thought Sylla deserved a mention for the apparent increase in work rate, thought he really worked the Sheffield defenders in the first half in way we hadn't seen before.

Seb,
Zapata didn't seem to qualify for a work permit under the UK rules. The club could have got into a process of putting together a case, and maybe running through a whole appeal process too, but the chance of success was very low. I suspect the club considered how he fitted in and took a a look at him in training and then decided to cut their losses once the work permit situation became apparent. Expect to see him playing in Spain or Italy in a few years and being brilliant. That West Ham came to exactly the same conclusion, albeit without seriously looking at the player up close as we did, probably speaks volumes. Must confess I do wonder sometimes who advises the club on these issues because even a cursory look at the work permit requirements would probably have saved everyone a lot of time.

Viking invasion of W12 (with minor pillaging)
at 08:50:32

R in Sweden,

I remember going to Helsingor and just being amazed by the rows and rows of duty free shops. Interesting thing was it was actually a sign of the times. Finns goto Sweden by ferry to dtrink and by booze. Swedes do the same to Denmark. Danes actually did something similar for a while to Germany. We go to France. The viking genes run deep in northern Europe. When I was first in Copenhagen Nyhavn, the pretty touristy canal/harbour bit was also known locally as Swedepool in the summer. It was where the Malmo ferry docked and many Swedes never got any further than the first 150 metres of bars and restaurants. Quite a few got so drunk they fell/jumped in the water and had to be regulary fished out.

I also knew a few Swedes in Copenhagen who prefered to be thought of as British by their Danish bretheren. To be fair, the behav

Viking invasion of W12 (with minor pillaging)
at 07:19:23

Great read. Having lived in Denmark in the early 90's and again in mid 2000's I can confirm that the R's have been on TV there as long as Sweden. There is also a solid following of the R's faithful who travel from Copenhagen for games and meet in pubs showing the games each time they are on TV. It was always somehow satisfying to turn up in pub and demand the sound was turned up for a championship game with 10-15 shirted QPR fans just for the total bafflement of the other denizens of the pub who had no idea who QPR was. Just don't mention the Swedes though. Ha.

Great article and so well written. My thoughts are with you mate. It does get easier, but takes time.

Great report Clive. One pedantic grumble is that Dusko Tosic is Serbian and not Slovenian. There's been wars in that part of the world over lesser slights.

Cup takes QPR back to scene of Holloway’s humbling — full match preview

Clive,

not sure that your comment "Shinawatra’s questionable approach to human rights while the Prime Minister of Thailand" is at all correct.

Perhaps his questionable approach to taxation while the Prime Minister of Thailand is more appropriate. His demise, was alledgely avoiding paying many hundreds of millions of dollars of tax on selling his families stake in a telecoms company along with allegations of corruption by his key party/government officials.
