Why did they get kicked out, out of interest? Always enjoyed their sound system back in the day.
The site was closed for a couple of years and they always presumed they'd get the licence back once all the building work was done.
And the organisers just gave it to someone else. Despite the massive and international popularity of SP.
The only logical conclusion is that the Carnival organisers didn't want house heads there. Norman Jay had lost his spot round the corner (the square was built over) and so SP was the last proper house sound system left.
Now it's the usual shouty urban shit. I went to have a look a few years ago and lasted about 10 seconds.
So I guess the organisers got what they wanted. But it's a shame because the Norman Jay/Sancho Panza thing was utterly brilliant for a decade and just about everyone that I know that went to Carnival went to those two spots.

And if they were still there, they still would.

That was amazing and right outside the flat I was living in on Westbourne Park. Couldn't believe it when I opened the curtains and saw them setting up.

Yep it was those two, plus a reggae sound (can’t remember the name), that we used to float between. Easily 20+ years since I went though and will probably never go back. Great memories though.
