If any good is to come out of this, it's that even on here, people are feeling able to tell their own stories having had to bottle it up for decades. Talking about it is the only way of dealing with it and my admiration goes to all those gaining the courage to speak up now.

If by posting on a message board helps, please continue. I'm sure it is far easier for you to tell people you don't personally know than any friends, colleagues or acquaitances.

Le Tissier has revealed that the youth team players at Southampton were given naked massages. As he said, "wrong, very wrong". I always found it a bit weird that Don Revie would insist on giving his players a massage but it's a big jump from giving your players who are grown men wearing towels a massage because (I'm assuming) he believed it would help them to giving boys a naked massage because you like touching young boys.
I also always thought Gradi was a wrong'un but maybe that was subconsciously because of the rumours, maybe they weren't just rumours...
It's all rather horrendous stuff, all we can hope is that the victims get justice and that this sort of thing isn't allowed to happen anymore.

I'm not sure justice could ever be had, lifes ruined from a young age, many will be in middle to late age, the offenders old or dead.

For me personally, I was abused when I was 10 by a so called friend of the family. To make it worse, it was set up by my own Father. I'm 65 now and it's fair to say it ruined my life, 65 and not a friend in the world.
I admire you for speaking out about this - so sorry this has happened to you.

I was abused by someone who from the our first meeting I thought didnt like me. In the short time I was aware of him he seemed unhappy being around kids.
Why he was on a weeks holiday with the Hounslow 10th Boys Brigade is a mystry to me.
It was the annual week away in Cornwall with the 10th Boys Brigade Hounslow. I attended each Thusrsday evening and I never once see this spectacled balding bloke but that week in August, there he was.
One night he came into my tent to tell me what a naughty boys I was. I have to admit. I had been sent to bed early for fighting. I dropped off to sleep then woke up to this man telling how naughty I was.
Months later at the Christmas Bizarre Hounslow youth centre, I see him again for only the second time. What hurt most was my mum and dad smiling and waving to him without a clue.
What hope does a nine year old have?
Thankfully I have grown up to have four handsome young lads and a drop dead gorgeous daughter who have been kept safe from people like that....I hope.
No idea how or if I would cope with this - big respect to you.

these stories are terrible, many want the rope back for nonces but , move on...i hate it when you hear, "we knew he was a wrong un" ok was why nothing said/done when it was ongoing? why didn't someone "do" the suspect, even a blackeye may have been a warning , as not much seems to have gone on, they preyed on others. "dispatches" did a tv prog ages back, named many and where did it go? where were the fa and clubs then?? i recall gradi then, reluctant to talk, yet many said that "barry" was taking kids home for the weekend! for so many to come forward is a huge step and so many now doing the same....it seems a deep problem. maye the fa need to cough up some of the billions from tv into specialist centres / counselling for the victims? and i mean proper money not a token.

I used to work with adults who had been victims, and occasionally perpetrators, in the past. One thing that became obvious early on was how organised the offending groups were, like well run little secret societies, what then became apparent to me a little further down the line was the nature of cover ups and under-the-carpet-brushing that so often occurred when victims had tried to take it further. It seems the higher profile or more powerful the abuser the greater level of protection they receive. I remember seeing the CH4 report about the loathsome Cyril Smith. A police officer who had begun an investigation into Smith due to victims coming forward told of how one day a couple of senior officers from Scotland yard just turned up out of the blue took all the files they had amassed and said that the case was closed and not to be discussed again.
This is a very interesting documentary from Australia's version of '60 minutes' on the subject.
I would encourage everyone to keep a firm eye on the national inquiry going on, it is already on its fourth chair and it would appear that there has already been a lot of deliberate slowing down and interference of the investigation leading to a large survivor's group withdrawing describing it as 'stage managed and contrived' and 'failing publically and tragically'.
Their founder said, “Having watched the IICSA unpalatable circus stumble and lurch from crisis to crisis … it no longer matters whether we think the inquiry is just another stitch-up because it is clearly a botch job that needs a drastic overhaul if it is ever to achieve its initial objectives.”
Is it just bad luck that such an important inquiry has ended up being so drastically inefficient to the point of being severely compromised? Or are there still a few powerful people with a lot to hide?
My heart felt sympathy to all those who have suffered on here. I've seen the effects up close and you've got nothing but my love and admiration for keeping going.
