It was mentioned a while ago that the site was going to be improved at some point.

Here are some suggestions:

1. Add year to threads and posts so you've got a clue when something was posted.

2. Add ability to link to individual posts in other threads (at the moment you can only link to the beginning of another thread).

3. Add support for linking to a particular time in a Youtube video. This would be handy for longer music and football videos.

4. Add support for linking to other video providers e.g. Vimeo.

5. Fix the LFW Windows 10 Chrome bookmarks bug.

Not clued up on t’internet technology, but if we refrained from adding video clips for the time being would that save you any dosh. Cost of memory and all that, or is that outdated these days?

That wouldn't save memory. Only the (text) links to Youtube videos will be saved in LFW's database. The actual Youtube videos are on Google's servers somewhere.

Thinking about this a bit more...as a rule of thumb, I'd say that the days of computer hardware bottlenecks are over. Users see that with ever more powerful computers for the same or less cost. Most of the problems we see are human bottlenecks (lack of developers, badly-designed software etc).

LFW can only handle YouTube links in the old watch?v= format, but YouTube is now appending the user's channel after the v= part of the url e.g.

old style default url: watch?v=MQ7CETEJ8fA
new style default url: watch?v=MQ7CETEJ8fA&feature=youtu.be&ab_channel=BertrandVDM

This means that when you cut and paste a YouTube link, it will no longer work automatically. YouTube links still work on LFW, but you have to remove everything including and after the &.

That, I think, is to do with the new mobile site coming down the pipe shortly. ATM if you post a straight YouTUbe link the mobile site will fit it to whatever window you're viewing the site in. If you use an embed code from YouTUbe, or add any more stuff ot the address, it can't do it. I'm having to redo all the YouTube embeds in our stories as well.
