YES at the Empire pool Wembley, Topographic tour. We should have left and gone to the pub.

DREADFUL

Also Slade at Wembley, sat about 10 foot away from the speaker bank at the side of the stage, my ears have never been the same since. You get used to Tinnitus

captains fantastic

Sleeper at Brixton Acadamey. One decent song and a fanciable singer doesn’t always make for a good shag.

Always wondered what it would've been like to see The Beatles live at the height of Beatlemania when by all accounts most of the audience were screaming shrieking girls: I'm sure you would've hardly heard the band play anything......

Well it was a bit like turning up to Loftus Road circa 2012, and reading that JSP was in the Starting XI and then discovering that a load of Koreans are sitting next to you!

Saw The Fall at the Nashville Rooms in West Ken when they were NME's big new thing. Thought they were awful and have never bothered to find out what all the fuss was about since.

I went to see Grace Jones at the Academy on a Sunday night in the early 90's. I'd seen Sly & Robbie play there a year or so previously and just sort of assumed they'd be her band given they were so central to 99% of her recordings.

But no. It was Gace, a backing tape and some sort of gormless muscle Mary pushing her backwards and forwards on a swing. She was also 2 hours late and I had to get the last tube home to the Grove before the end. Ripped up my ticket in the foyer on the way out. The most expensive ticket for any gig I'd ever been to by far.

Many years later I ended up having dinner with her mum in New Orleans (a long story involving an old flatmate of mine who went out with someone in the music industry).

She was pretty formidable and so I didn't dare say anything about that gig......And to be fair I still listen to the Compass Point Sessions to this day.

F&kcin shit gig though.

Having recently seen a very ancient but still amazing Marlene Shaw blow the doors off at Ronnie Scotts I booked myself in to see Bill Charlapp the jazz painist.

Small main playing jazz covers. Now I know what it's like to be on a cruise ship. Never again.

I was at Glastonbury in 92 when Tom Jones relaunched his career with Reload.

A few years later Rod Stewart was playing Earls Court. I thought "Hmm, Cheesy out-of-fashion ageing bloke who had been a bit of a legend - I'll give it a go. This could end up being amazing".

Well it wasn't. His voice was shot, the set was cheesy. Might as well have gone to see Barry Manilow.

Avoid.

The Ramones Brixton Academy

I didn't know what a mosh pit was until that night.
I spent all night waiting to exact my revenge on some tosser who thought is was ok to thump me in the back and spill my beer. He didnt do it again.

Victorious Festival (Portsmouth) last couple of years, Elbow, what a dirge, should never be allowed to close a festival!
Last year it was New Order, hour and a half never heard any of it before, the crowd was getting restless, eventually went to the other stage to see Clean Bandit!
Earlier in the day I had to leave Plan B, 1 decent song, the rest was a white guy pretending to be a black lad from de hood, went to the real ale tent for a decent pint and listened to some decent country music that’s not usually my thing.

Guns n Roses Hammersmith Apollo circa 2006.
Two hours late on stage, people already leaving in order to not miss trains home, not really GnR line-up, too many arty-farty solos from the session musicians playing stuff of theirs no one gives a schit about.
Good job I got free tickets through work and had my motorbike to get home otherwise I’d have been really pi$$ed off.

Sly and the family Stone, he definitely was! It was at Loftus Road I think 1973. One of the bands on which I wasn't a fan of but became one as they we're so good was Lindisfarne.

Sigue Sigue Sputnik at Canbury (Kingston Poly). Shit attituded, only played 6 songs (which all sounded the same), and stropped off after 34 minutes.
Contrast that with the Godfathers, who were so professional that even when the bass player fell off the stage and cracked a bone in his leg; after he returned from hospital with a cast on they played the final hour of their set.

100% of people who drink water will die.

Good to hear she’s still got it. I saw her in Bristol about 20 years ago, in a gig organised by the fellas that run Soul Brother records in Putney. She was awesome that night, but sadly there wasn’t many people to witness it.

My mate took his wife to see Rush at some point in the 80s.

Some way into the gig, one of the venue's staff came over to ask my mate's wife if she would be more comfortable in the bar. She was reading a book by torchlight

Was that at the old Empire Pool? I saw them there and it was the only gig I ever went to where I checked my watch with a view to leaving. As it was 10.00 PM I decided to stick it out.

Earth Wind and Fire, mid 70s. Warm up act for Santana. Most other people round me seemed to enjoy it. I was left wishing I'd brought a crossword to do.
