Great series that you can’t watch uncut now. It’s a good thing in its own way but I do miss the days of free speech and saying things you regret without being killed. Although, your past is still no excuse for you now. Even though it was the way of the world then. You past sins are your present sins. You are a sinner . Kill sinners. Apart from those who kill sinners because, those who live NOW, are beyond reproachment, they are pure. They have no past. Yet.

I always doubt that they're sincere in their apologies for the reason you outline. I think that's why a lot of this stuff happens, fear of complaints that may or may not materialise. A warning or apology isn't too invasive but when they start changing the shows it gets into complicated territory. I'd be interested to know what kind of things they're removing tbh, I was born after a lot of these things were aired so I kind of think "how bad can it be?". |
Another 'Really?!'warning is the equally ridiculous 'This programme was made before Covid restrictions were put in place' They put this up after the ITV programme about Heathrow! Who is thick enough to think that was made AFTER Covid?!
| Past humour/ stuff is old gits liked on 12:00 - Sep 7 with 828 views | QPRSteve | This thread has got me thinking about warnings that SHOULD appear on TV programmes. I'll starts with: Warning! This programme contains a self opinionated boring w*anker. Should be shown for programmes featuring Piers Morgan, | | | |

It gives me no pleasure to state that sadly, a lot of telly watchers are extremely stupid, hence the warnings. When you consider the utter drivel put out by TV companies it makes you wonder whether the programmes are like that because people are so dozy or whether it's the programmes contributing to such dullmindedness and making people even worse.

Yes, thanks to education cuts and dumbing down, it's so much easier to get the sheeple to believe everything and do what you say without questioning. Innit.

| Past humour/ stuff is old gits liked on 08:14 - Sep 6 by TGRRRSSS | There's a great website with a lot on Minder including the many locations used throughout the series with then and now shots in some cases. I notice many programmes still shown now have warnings for "outdated views and language" these days. IN many ways it's ridiculous worrying about something written/made often years and years ago when times and views etc were very different. Apparently even Friends has been caught up in it, somewhat surprisingly. |
This one, love it - https://www.minder.org/

Good link Chef. Only realised when I saw his picture on the site that Glynn Edwards (Dave from the Winchester Club) played Cpl. William Allen in Zulu as well.

| Past humour/ stuff is old gits liked on 11:54 - Sep 6 by Nov77 | Anyone watching Mortimer and whitehouse - gone fishing? I’ve never had the slightest interest in fishing but find it the best programme on tv at the moment. Two funny blokes having a laugh amidst Britain’s beautiful scenery. |
I'm an angler, in fact I'm sitting by the Hampshire Avon fishing as I write. I love this programme and find myself chuckling my way through it. Mortimer's reflective story about how he lost his dad was obviously a sad one, but the way he told it had me falling about with laughter.

| Past humour/ stuff is old gits liked on 09:25 - Sep 6 by colinallcars | Yes, it's utterly ridiculous to warn of “outdated views” in a programme and then later show a modern programme that's replete with grisly violence, drug dealing, various perversions, swearing and all sorts. Modern TV is garbage and getting worse...both terrestial and standard TV. The last things I enjoyed on TV were Smiley's People and The Monocled Mutineer. |
I don't particularly mind the "outdated views and language" warning that comes up as long as the programme is shown as originally broadcast and not cut. Talking Pictures TV does that quite a bit before some of the programmes it shows such as 'Budgie' which I'm currently enjoying all over again. I don't believe things of cultural significance like television programmes should be cut and history re-written to suit modern day sensibilities, that's how it was made and should stay. The recent hoo-hah over the episode of Fawlty Towers just one example.

Ha, there should be a few clues for them on a show about Heathrow. I think people got a bit caught out when the restrictions first come in and they thought they'd managed to spot something "unlawful" when in reality they just didn't understand the concept of pre-recorded shows. When you're dealing with people like that I must admit I'd just chuck the warning on to save the ear ache.

I know, hit by a 'sunshine peaches' truck, the irony being he didn't like peaches.... then Whitehouse adds "or sunshine".

In a previous series they got one of the heart surgeons who had operated on one of them to recreate the operation on a kitchen table - there are things like this through all 3 series - humour on the edge - but it works!
