The stonewall penalty on Field missed by the 'ghost goal' ref, Atwell.

He gives that and maybe we see a different result.

Ok, we still should have been better, but these decisions are often crucial ( as with Austin's disallowed 'winner' last season against Sunderland).

Couldn’t see the charlton player from trying to rip his shirt off for 5 yds as field was running across the penalty box, but managed to see adomah block the charlton player at the end off it all. Disgraceful really.
As stonewall as it gets.

Really strange that no-one has even talked about it. I was screaming at the telly - a more stonewall penalty you will not see - crazy.

It happened in the first half, maybe half way through from one of our corners - unbelievable decision Jeff.

Impeccable service Brian as ever, thank you.

Farcical decision. Totally agree OP.

According to the commentator - 'by the letter of the law, that really ought to be a penalty'.

Was the free kick given the other way because of Albert's block?

Most of the travelling fans wouldn't have been able see it, come on, the ref didn't even see it!

Farcical. Honestly cannot see how that wasn't given.

Bare bones.

COME ON.

We had to sit through all 90+ minutes of it, so surely you have to in order to 'share the pain'?

Can we go out yet?

I have seen it on video a few times.

What actually happens is Field hold his shirt first much closer so, it's not as noticeable, then Uncle blocks (which is allowed as he standing his ground) and then Field runs to head it in, and then the Charlton player pulls his shirt back.

I suspect the ref saw it all and let it go as they were both at it.

What is more interesting is that this is clearly a training ground move, because if Field had not pulled the opp players shirt then he would have indeed got the pen or even better, which was the point of the move, had a great chance to head it in as it was for sure played into him that way.

I would say this was a move worked on by our new set-piece coach and totally messed up by players who think they know better. Do, the play you have been taught and stop cheating.

zzzzzzzzzz

People are going to kick me but I think you are all totally wrong. I think that Atwell got this one perfectly right.

Forget Field in this first off. Look only at Adomah. Where is he looking? What did he do when Field's marker came across in front of him?

Very simple, but Adomah clearly was illegally blocking the run and making it so obvious any referee of a sane nature could have picked it. Adomah did not stand his ground, but clearly moved his body into the defender thus body-checking him, illegally. The resultant free kick was given against Adomah in this situation.

As to Field going down, that happened was his marker when blocked grabs at anything he could to balance as he goes down himself from the Adomah challenge.

I am pretty sure Pinner will back me up on this.

Arsene Wenger defence once again, we lost, can't watch the 90'

If it really was 'stonewall' you think Beale might have said something.

You don't need to watch the 90 Pinner - just fast forward to 24:07 - get in get out and avoid the rest of the horror (aside from Roberts' goal which was a beauty)

Oh, Beale did say something, but not to the press and not that it was stonewall.

He would have had a word with his specialist set piece coach about either (a) choosing someone else than Uncle to do the block or (b) a better system for the corner.

First viewing, can see where 'stonewall' comes from#

2nd viewing think Lazyfan and Ozranger have got it spot on.

Yes Field has his shirt pulled but he has hold of oppo shirt and Albert clearly blocks him off as well.

Half a dozen incidents like that at every corner, which is why you see so few pens given at them - very difficult to decide who does what to whom in real time

But what was the biggest misdemeanour of all committed fouls in real time without the luxury off multiple re runs in slo mo. ie the most obvious ?

This is what I don't understand in the non-VAR reffing world, though.

Why don't refs give what they see.
In this instance penalise Forster and give the pen if he saw it (which by his positioning, I'm not sure he did).
And if he, his manager and the media all come after the ref isn't it ok to say "clear penalty, and maybe there was a foul before it that my two human eyes missed, and if so that's a shame and I apologise, but I saw your foul and that's a penalty in the rule book and I have no choice but to give it.

It would stop all of this nonsense about "six of one and half a dozen of the other".

Yes that is a very good point, ref doesn't have re runs though, so we can guess that he maybe saw Sam hold the other guy's shirt and/or Albert's block?

Of course he may have missed all 3!

True, but as with Wilder last week. not sure the Charlton manger would just shrug his shoulders and say "OK" after that explanation!

We all know where this is heading - Sunderland to be awarded a penalty in the exact same circumstances as we weren't - and probably flagged for by the assistant who gave offside incorrectly against Sunderland in the cup last year
