I dont find it an attack on free speach, He signed the contract for money to limit what posts on social media, if he didnt like it, he should not have aggred to it, if he didnt under stand his contract, then he shouldnt have signed it. Its his own doing i have 0 sympathy, and all those refusing to work because of it, well sack them too, its what would happen at any normal place or work.
Next we going to get up in an uproar because players are not allowed to bet on there own football game lol, or managers, refs, and so on.. ohh wait, they already are not allowed.

The suspension of Lineker may have more to do with the BBC trying to save some money as a further 2 million people stopped paying their TV licence last year, so they may want rid of an overpaid underwhelming ex pro, especially when they can see how much better Mark Chapman is .
I'm no fan of Gary, but this is pretty tame stuff and who cares what he thinks anyway. This is just further erosion of free speech, as we head ever more to a highly censored totalitarian society.

Lineker has worked for the BBC for a lot longer and in a greater capacity than any other presenter, fronting many sporting events including the World Cup, the biggest. He has become THE face of the BBC! and benefited not only in his extreme wealth but in his large following (8 mil?) on twitter, made by all this exposure. He has set up his own production company to exploit this following with various podcasts on social media making him many more millions than he will receive from the BBC. (that's why he's not worried about losing his job).
The result of this huge following is that he has disproportionate power to influence the masses with his misguided comments which are beyond dangerous. And he knows this.
TV is a powerful tool and therefore the BBC has to be impartial, Lineker knows the rules and has chosen to ignore them and therefore needs to be saked. | | | |

If you do just a tiny bit of research, there is plenty of information on the internet, with many BBC staff and former staff offering insider insight regarding how this has,and currently works, you would see that it is not so clear cut. Especially as TimDavies changed the rules to be more vague, after the commencement of GL’s contract.
There is ample evidence that the BBC are swaying towards leniency for those with more right wing views and against those with more left wing views..

Lineker has clearly been taking the piss out of the BBC with his social media posts despite previous warnings. The BBC impartiality rule should be valid for all its presenters. I had a family member working at the BBC in the previous decade and the rules on SM are very clear.

Lineker is entitled to his opinion. This isn't in doubt. But the Nazis put Jews in concentration camps for slaughter. We have been putting up people in top hotels, all expenses paid for. We have people risking their lives and their children, to cross the Channel when they are already in a safe country. People smugglers are rampant. We can't just let them all in. The government is trying to address this issue, even if it's the wrong policy. GL just simply isn't right to compare the situation to Nazis and hence the controversy. He has a job reporting on football. He was stupid to announce his views like that in public. He could have just said "what a bad policy, I totally disagree with it". Trouble is, if they sack GL (as they quite rightly should) it's very likely that they'll replace him with a Woman presenter, there's at least one woman on every football show now, so Beeb will not hesitate to be politically correct & have MOtD hosted by a female.
