But he was absolutely pony in a back 2. Look at our defensive record up until the Norwich game in Dec 2020/21. Ok footballer, but an ave/poor CB. The only time we’ve looked ok with 2 cb’s is when Beale (spit) brought Balugon in for 8-10 games. We were shit, defensively, at the beginning of the season, but at least he recognised it and brought Balugon in. Other option was go go back 3, which I much prefer, given (when on song) we’ve liked to commit nos forward.

Yes he was better in a back three but it’s not really any kind of comparison when his replacement is rarely available to actually play football. The difference between Barbet and Clarke-Salter is night and day.
It’s symptomatic of what’s gone wrong at the club. We had a manager who had us finishing upper mid table but decided it wasn’t good enough. Likewise, a centre back in Barbet who played every minute of every game and gave his all for the club but suddenly he was surplus to requirements.
