In another thread the topic has turned to what players the development team has produced suitable for the first team.
This has been an argument since Warburton and one of the mitigation points Ferdinand offered was that (around) eight players had been whisked away by Premier League/ Cat A teams.
Does anyone know who any of these players are which teams they went to and most importantly what are they doing now? Have we really missed out on eight super stars or have they all drifted away to lower leagues or sat in U23 teams?

Ramsey and (I think) Ferdinand also stated during the lockdowns on podcasts that we had the second-highest amount of home-produced minutes in the division one season, maybe 19/20. I've no idea if it's accurate or not, but hopefully it's worth mentioning. |  |

Yes mate - I'm a data analyst by trade and the thread got me thinking about just how pitiful our academy had been prior to the most recent Prem relegation. Turns out the data backed that feeling up.
There's obviously subjective elements to the reasons for the upward trend and the quality of play in those spiked seasons. But irrespective of that I don't think it can be argued that our academy hasn't been used a LOT more over the last 5 years or so than at any point this century. Nor that before Les came in the academy had been pretty much a complete throw-away other than Ray Jones, God love him.
Could also be worth pointing out that the academy was used under Holloway the first time round albeit sparingly, then went quite literally missing for 10 years and only started being used again in any form in 2016... under Ian Holloway. [Post edited 7 Sep 2023 12:37]

You’re right again we did lose to Luton in the next round. My memory is shot. The game I saw at Motspur Park was something called the Premier League Cup and it ended 5-0 to Fulham. Interesting we haven’t entered that competition this year but we have entered the London Senior Cup. Could be that it’s deemed more worthwhile and better preparation for the real thing playing against non-League first teams than other professional teams U21 sides. | | | |

All had made senior appearances before joining QPR. I feel they are the products of other academies that we picked up through our scouting network rather than us producing them. | | | |

By that logic you'd have to include all those that we've lost from our academy to Cat A clubs, which is impossible as we don't know who they are and they haven't gone on to play for QPR. But you should be including Sterling, Elliott and Bowler in your version of the numbers - that latter two being players which you could argue proves my point even more.
Agree there's a fuzzy line though - I tried to include anyone that I perceived to be initially signed for and played in the development squad, therefore excluding Bright and Jimmy Dunne but including Masterson for example, despite their ages. | | | |

Kelman aside, I'd argue they're two sides of the same coin when it comes to The Plan.
If they've been with us since they were nippers, like Furlong and Lumley. great. If we took a chance on teenagers when others didn't (Eze) or found promising youngsters in unlikely and / or under-scouted places (Armstrong, Manning, Chair) - also great.
