Probably. Though the Irish are no more - or less - thick than people everywhere.

Except for the ones in Kerry who, if brains were dynamite, couldn't muster enough to blow their nose.

I’ve yet to meet a thick Kerryman .
Cute whores as we’d say back home.
Nothing gets past them.
Casement park should be fun in 28 .
There won’t be many Taighs there , I should imagine .
Apologies for spelling . Brian will probably know it.

Casement Park is named after Roger Casement, a Dubliner who initially supported British Imperialist rule over ireland, accepted a knighthood from the British, then joined the Gaelic League, an Irish language and cultural revival movemernt, joined Sinn Féin with both he and that party graduating from non-violence to violence, fundraised for weapons in America, worked with the Germans during the First World War to smuggle arms into Ireland to be used in a rebellion against the British, was captured, tried for treason in London and executed by hanging.

And now, the Gaelic Association stadium named after him, located in oft-troubled Belfast will be part-host to an International soccer tournament co-hosted by Ireland and Britain.

Don't ever let anyone tell us that change is not possible, that wounds do not heal, that progress is not all around us.

Strong possibility of a Shinner government too. Unthinkable even in 97.

On a side-note, I was up in Antrim last Saturday on a job for my Dad. The job ended up a wash-out but it worked out great because of it as I had spare hours to chat to old friends, new friends and passing strangers and there were so many diverse views as compared to the old days that it truly gladdened the heart.

Staggering changes. People crossing the old religious/nationalistic lines now and beginning to vote on social issues.

I've never been to Belfast but if it's anything like its surrounding County then I'd imagine the 2028 fans will have the ears burned off them with the welcome.

Competed in Belfast at all Ireland cross country schools championship back in the late seventies.
Journeys there on a bus weren’t much fun .
Later when Holyhead sailings were full , we did Stranraer to Larne sailings .
One of my exs , a lovely English nurse refused to do the return route so we managed to get a Dublin - Holyhead boat.
She was genuinely frightened travelling through the North .
Changed times indeed and great to see.

I think you are right, Brian. Don’t know much about Belfast, our folks are out in the sticks around the Coleraine area, but I love the place.

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?

I worked in Dublin 2013/14 and the attitudes were much more modern than any of the stereotypes from the 60s and 70s. I worked in a section where there were English, Irish, a Frenchman, a Spaniard, a Pole, a Russian and a Brazilian as well as a few indians.
Both parents were Irish born and I'd gone over with my dad, as a young kid, and the changes were phenomenal.

Never mind any green or environment agenda, the 2030 World Cup will be held in Portugal, Spain, Morocco, Uruguay, Argentina and Chile. Lots of flying around for fans no doubt with this new concept of sharing tournaments between different countries.

Isn't that just because it'll be the centenary of the first tournament though? A bit like what they did for the 60th anniversary of the Euros in 2020

Got this sent to me earlier, Toast.

"Uefa would like England, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Scotland and Wales to go through the standard qualifying process for the tournament, with two host nation places kept open for any teams that fail to qualify. If more than two fail to qualify, the two best-performing nations would go through."

https://www.theguardian.com/fo

From what I'm led to believe all 55 UEFA Associations will enter qualifying as normal, with two host nations spots held in reserve if none of the five host countries qualify.

So potentially we could still have all five countries qualifying, but three host nations would have to make it in order to make it happen.

Sure didn't a load of English tourists take the ferry to Wexford as far back as 1169!

I always love when people (or their scriptwriters) mess up. This one's a beaut.

Went to Belfast to watch Fulham. Probably the friendliest place I’ve been to in the UK/RoI. Utterly bonkers that you go from a super friendly ‘normal’ city centre which feels and looks like it could be anywhere in the UK, and then you wander a wee bit out of town and it’s peace walls, flags and painted gables etc. I would very happily go back there for a couple of days - some great pubs and people.

Fulham FC: It's the taking part that counts

To be fair, you’d get the same issue with most cross border tournaments…Poland-Ukraine, Japan-Korea, Spain and it’s former American colonies…even Italy and Turkey don’t have to go back to the Roman Empire.

Oh God, I know, I just found the clunky PR speak hilarious.
