I'm not very au-fait with current affairs of famous people so had no idea he was ill, so was a shock to read of his passing this morning. They both seemed great characters, very sad.

His joy in the series that is being shown on BBC2 is infectious. As is the love between Dave & Si.

I knew he was unwell. He was very gaunt-looking in his relatively recent programmes.

It's not often you see a double act where there is clearly a great relationship between the two of them, but Si and himself had that in spades. They could also warmly engage with everyone on their travels and could clearly communicate what they were doing in the kitchen to the camera. This set their programmes apart from their peers. It was impossible not to like them or learn from them.

Rest in peace and thanks for the memories.
