Two thoughts/queries re Swansea 10:51 - Dec 28 with 1952 viewsMyke

1 After the Milwall horror show, twelve months ago, Kakay and Dozzell never saw the light of day for the QPR first team again. Given our current injury woes, will Marti be able to able to do anything similar after the Swansea debacle? The likes of Paal and Fox are obvious targets, but like I say, defenders are in short supply in the moment - perhaps it depends on the window?
2 When Paal replaced Ashby at half-time v BC, things improved significantly down the left hand side. This is according to people on here who were at the game. When Ashby replaced Paal at half-time v Swansea, things improved significantly, again according to eye-witnesses. So how does that work? Is it an actual improvement, or is it a perception by those watching based on how dire the first half performances by the incumbent was? Or is it the fact that Chair improved the whole situation down the left when replacing Saito?

Wasn’t there but for me any perceived second half improvement at Swansea was as much down to them taking their foot off our throat as anything else.

We’re better for Chair being out there second half and to an extent, Frey. But there’s no doubt Swansea dropped a gear or two, that could have been a mauling if they’d kept at it.

We surprised Norwich with Kolli, not intentionally it should be said, perhaps a change of formation might be needed Sunday to have any chance of getting a point.

I would be surprised if Paal plays tomorrow if he is still ill. Not sure.

If not I'd go 4-4-2 tomorrow in an effort to push Norwich back and keep a few of their defenders occupied...

Nardi

Ashby Dunne JCS Field (if Paal is out)

Smyth Varane Madsen Chair

Kolli Frey

Never knowingly right.
Poll: How long before new signings become quivering wrecks of the players they were?

Paal stopped the rot when he came in against Bristol city . Ashby was getting murdered down that flank .
Apparently the opposite happened yesterday.
The inconsistency of performances is common place in this leauge .
When Paal does leave, he will end up like a long list of “ our not quiet good enough ex players”
We know who they are and what they have gone on not to achieve.

Correct. Why push yourself with the game won and another in three days when the opposition aren’t laying a glove on you?

Was at that Millwall game and it was horrendous but in a different way. Swansea now are infinitely better than Millwall were that day. We had loads of the ball but never once looked like doing anything with it.

But to answer the OP, no. Fox maybe if we had more options but we don’t so he’ll be in the squad for the foreseeable future. No need to overreact though the smart money is on Norwich to pump us tomorrow given our record without Cook and there being a bit of an edge to it with their team and crowd.

The only good thing is the game is pretty much right away and Marti has said we like playing quickly after a loss to try and put things right for the fans.
He also appears to love Fox (in interviews he speaks highly of him )so I dont expect him to be booted off the squad regardless of his shocking performances.

Might as well put Dixon-Bonner in at this stage, nothing to lose and maybe some marginal gains over Madsen.

Probably also worth a punt on cards, sendings off, hissy fits, handbags and pens.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

Tend to agree but we have a, theoretically, very highly rated ref who will manage the game better than what we’re used to. I think the reaction to the home game was mainly Twitter weirdos and it doesn’t affect the players much. As a betting man I’d be looking at Norwich on the handicap realistically.

3-5-2… JCS in the middle with Field on the left and Dunne on the right. Smyth as RWB and Saito as LWB. Chair up top with Frey. Whatever we have left in midfield.

…there you go. 3 points sorted.
