I know we've a postie or two on here.
Denmark stopping letter deliveries after this year.
Posties have been a lifeline to many folk over the years.
Even some folksongs written about 'em - “what a wonderful man the postman is” and, “ the post has got to get through”
Hope it won't be the same here, but I expect it will be.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stint as a postie, albeit as an agency worker. Two or so years ago, so things have changed (compulsory Sat and Sun) so stuff that. I’m sure a whole lot more for those that are doing it now.

Still in touch with a couple of good people in the Slough depot. Another great job gone wrong.

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?

Yep, they're a lifeline to many people and also the postie can often tell whether there's an issue at the property too.

We had 2 deliveries a day when I started in 1978,but there was a lot more post back in those days.I can see the day coming when you might get 2 or 3 deliveries a week in order to save money.
I’d hate to think what it’s like now,but it was a great job back then.

My old mate Harry, sadly gone used to deliver in Chiswick and had Sheila Hancock on his round.
He used to tell me there’s an offence of Impersonating A Postman.
Was he pulling my leg ?

I did it for three summers in the early 90s - clearing my overdraft as a filthy student.

I can't say exactly why, but it's stayed with me ever since as one of the jobs I was proudest to have done. I found out in the last couple of years that I had at least one postman in my family tree, so maybe that's it, who knows.

Judging by the price of a first class stamp these days I'm guessing the service as we know it is on its last legs sadly.

I thought this was about pasties.

I had a Ginster's pasty for me tea.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.
