Ipswich Reflection 17:53 - Nov 1 with 17155 viewsbluenwhite10

A fair result and list to a side with an embarrassment of talent.

Ipswich going into the match are a team in a false position and it was going to click for them at some stage and unfortunately for us it was today..

Squirting hopelessly beaten on the wing for the 1st goal.

In fairness we responded well attacking Ipswich right quite a bit as Chair was getting lots of success against Furlong and good following up by Butr

Mart

Didn’t reply direct because it chews up space but it feels like:

1) we wasted pre-season completely - trying to play a system that didn’t suit the players
2) we used what we didn’t learn in pre-season to start badly, with the same system
3) picked a team of kids in the cup - not really expecting to progress when we could have done so with a minimal amount of planning and a different set of subs/more seasoned players.
4) got thumped by Cov - keeper ‘injured’
5) switched systems to suit the players and had some success - looked good at times
6) got bullied by the usual suspects - dropped points we could/should have picked up
7) got found out by a few better coaches with better prep/planning
8) got tired in three game weeks
9) got thumped by Ipswich - at home. Worse than Cov for me
10) now need to adjust again to find a way to get results

Stop me, oh oh oh stop me, stop me if you heard this one before…. rinse and frickin repeat bitches.

I know we were told that Jules blows hot and cold in spells but this is a whole season of more or less what we did last year in summary - before November really began, and with better players, in theory at least.

I know it’s QPR and I am not that surprised, but yesterday was just a complete and utter piss take at times.

At least Cov scored some decent goals against us and we were away from home but what the flying fcuk was that defensive shit show yesterday ?

Well said that man. The continuous doom loop circle we excel on every season just carries on regardless. Don't forget our nasty habit of conceding goals either side of half time which often pivots the direction of the game especially at our place. The Millwall game got away from us right on half time and Ipswich seized control just after the interval yesterday. Change the players, change the manager but the same old failings never stop.

No, I have not forgotten our subject matter expertise in untimely goals. In fact, I was rudely reminded of it by my phone alerts on Saturday as I was trying to get rid of some stubborn, visiting guests to watch the game - then again whilst taking too long at half time to fix an unscheduled issue.

That tiny, temporary feeling of hope that it might have been us for once, dashed by a BBC Sport alert, regularly induces a Tourette’s episode. I should probably turn them off but I can not start that road to recovery yet and am already preparing for midweek with a Hannibal Lecter style face mask.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

The saddest part isn’t being beaten by Ipswich - every player in their starting lineup would get in our team, it’s not a surprise.

The sad part is that this is it for us. The Eze money is now blown and we aren’t going to be getting another £10m or so to play with this generation so it’s either this group very quickly matures into a team that can go toe to toe with a point exactly world beating Ipswich or we just accept our fate now as a perennial Championship relegation battler/League One bouncing club, without that mystical carrot of ‘eze money’ glittering in the horizon as a one off chance to get out.

It's not as dramatically bad as that, though, is it? "The saddest part is that this is it for us": give it a rest. That's about as daft as saying Ian Holloway would be fired by Christmas 2024.

There are a lot of new young players with plenty of potential. There is also a coaching team new to the league and country trying to find their feet.

There is absolutely no reason why one of Poku, Kone, Saito, Madsen or even Varane can't develop into saleable assets. Maybe some others too, it's too early to say. "This generation has to quickly mature"...no, it really doesn't. Kone is 22. He has a couple of seasons at least to mature, Poku is 24 so he has the same...

There's time.

Top half this season would be decent, but that will involve a few dodgy runs - as we are on currently. Then next season, another step up.

But the squad is markedly better than last season, if anything it needs stripping back. Over next two windows I imagine we'll recruit a keeper, full back and that's about it. Players will leave. Maybe some will even be sold. Crazy, I know.

Losing is crap. I don't like it. But there's definitely more to be excited about with this current QPR than saying that's it, League 1 yo-yo for us. It's just nonsense. Bears no comparison to reality, even if we lose the next two.

Agree with this. I think this message board reflects us as fans, which is that we are either over-excited or over-negative.

After a couple of wins we start looking at the playoffs and licking our lips. A couple of poor defeats and we start writing off the manager and players entirely; all of this after all very sagely discussing our young side and how they would have ups and downs.

Don't get me wrong, we were atrocious on Saturday. But I'm not sure why we're catastrophizing about players like Kone after we all knew that he would have on-spells and off-spells, or talking about how Bould might replace Stephan weeks after we were all eulogizing about him.

The Eze money - and I'm not convinced it was as much as £10m, but let's assume it was - barely moves the needle in terms of changing us from a lower mid table team to one capable of threatening the top six. It's probably enough to stave off another relegation battle.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

Fortunately missed Saturday. Going Wednesday night.

Who knows which QPR team will turn up, but let's back the boys, love a night game under the lights.

Come on you Rs!

Poll: How old is everyone on here?

Hmm. I don’t know .

I think a lot of the more ‘over the top’ posts on here are either tongue in cheek or gallows humour and not to be taken too seriously.

The outlier was after Coventry of course.

Edit. - just to say I hope ND is back soon.

1 ill timed and slightly misdirected post and he feels the need to leave the board.
I’ve had similar when I’ve posted something not particularly thought through and been pounced on by a few . There are certainly little cliques on here that stick together .
Thats human nature too. It does affect you a little, but ultimately it shouldnt stop you saying what you think and feel , especially just after a game.
It’s ultimately what this is for , right?

Anyway, that’s a shame . His posts were often long and meandering (as are mine at times) but interesting nonetheless .
Hope he’s back soon .
