I used to drink in the Hope & Anchor in Hammersmith and a workmate who was a Wall fan but a nice chap (really!), used to drink in the Anchor & Hope 'round his way.
We discovered the names are from a hymn with the line “hope is the anchor of the soul”.
My current fav name is the Mad Bishop & Bear in Paddington.

I was in Bethnal Green last year heading for Vicky Park so I decided to drop into a hostelry I’ve frequented a few times over the years, the Camel. I took a short cut down Sugar Loaf Walk but half-way down the alleyway something literally stopped me in my tracks. It was a museum I’d never seen before … The Vagina Museum. As it was a sunny afternoon and I already had plans I decided not to enter the Vagina Museum (stop laughing at the back) but moments later as my half-poured Guinness was settling on the bar at the Camel I said, all jovial like, to the girl pouring it, “considering you’re now a few yards along from the Vagina Museum you should rename the pub The Camel Toe.” Her response was neutral. I felt she wanted to cancel me but wasn’t quite sure what correctness I’d contravened.
ps: the Vagina Museum has now moved around the corner to Cambridge Heath Road. Seriously … Google “Vagina Museum East London” and as well as getting links for the West Ham United Hall of Fame & Club Shop you’ll see it’s legit. |

Talking of cider I once visited this fantastic pub in Dorset called the Square and Compass that had something like a hundred ciders on tap, including its own home-pressed cider. In the fabulously named village of Worth Matravers. And I tell you what, it really was worth ma travels. |  |
