The best football played by QPR. 19:29 - Dec 16 with 3040 viewsSnipper

Following on from the worst football played by QPR, how about the best?

One that springs to mind was Wolves at home on a bank holiday Monday in 97 or 98 I think.
The first half we was on fire. We were 2-0 up, but it should’ve been 5-0.

Wolves were flying at the time, and we were destroying them. Then they made a tactical change, and allowed them back into the match. It finished 2-2.

Another vote for the 4-1 thumping of Spuds.

We were actually one down at HT but man, how we swamped them in the second half, so much so that Tel said some time afterwards that we were the best footballing side in the country.
Super Ray’s diving header will always be one of my favourite goals, bless him.

IIRC, it was the season after the Gurnham Singh game, too.

We were sh-t hot in a 3-0 win at Goodison, Bradley Allen hatrick, Wilkins was unplayable, then Les decided he’d had enough and went on a brilliant run, only to thump it over the bar towards the end. I think we were better in that one than the 5-3 win there before it, but I was sat on my hands in both games as I was in the home stands with my Blue Nose mate.

I was with a Spurs mate at that game and he was gushing about the football we played. We also had a bet that the loser would buy all the winner's drinks that night, which he honoured. A good day all round.

One game from that era that sticks out…Monday night at home to Liverpool, we ripped them to shreds, Les was unplayable. But we didn’t score! Ronnie Rosental won it on the break with about two minutes left. Started to believe in a jinx.

More recently, a minority view, but in the very brief Beale purple patch, we were like matadors with a gormless bull.

I think I may remember that Liverpool game.
I was in the SAR Stand, with a friend who was a Liverpool fan. Sir Les was, indeed, causing the Liverpool defence some problems.
My friend asked 'Who's that No 9? He looks good.'
I replied, 'He's called Les Ferdinand and he could be really good if he wasn't so laid back.'
Oh dear.
Thankfully, he soon became anything but 'laid back'.

In my life time

87/88 the start of the season we destroyed west ham - we had fenwick playing the sweeper in a 3-5- 2 , we were brilliant until he left

1990- The Don howe era - wilkins and Barker with wegerle/sinton up top was good
the cup run as well

1992-1993 Gerry and that team , so many what "ifs" had we invested
i always remember the day we destroyed Spurs at home 4-1 , Venables came out the next day and said we were the best team in Britain at that time

Gigi de canio 2007 - gutted he left when he did

Jim Magilton 2008 - we had those games against Preston, Barnsley , Reading , derby where we looked like Brazil 1970

Warnock - that season and Adel

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

When this is asked, for me I always remember this game. We played some cracking football in this game and considering the opposition we generally outplayed them. Yes we lost the game, but its a game we should have won. I also remember Faurlin being head and shoulders the best player on the pitch that day, above the likes of Yaya Toure and Silva.

Smells like a trout farm in here

Home to the fakes evening game beat them to death 4-0 I think.

At the time I was working on and off at the Madejski Stadium as my Company that I was working for had built their hotel extension and their new players entrance and marketing suite, I was sorting out their 'Issues'
Their stadium Managers were good blokes from the old Elm Park days and I got to know them well, the morning after we beat them to death I was straight on them both, I needn't have bothered they were both genuinely complimentary about our players and how we played even using the phrase ''we couldn't live with you last night''
As for the game one of the goals we scored took about Twenty passes, we were bloody superb that night.

Those games dont come along often, we were untouchable, absolutely untouchable.

Drew, If you're reading this Mate wherever you are I hope your keeping well.

Oh and the 8 odd minutes from the 82nd minute at Port fail

Always remember this one Ted - at one point Adel did the old “flick it over your own head” trick and about three Reading players were chasing him around to murder him.

We all got back to the Crown after and were sitting around in a daze going “we’re going up here, aren’t we?”

This was back when Reading were pretty good as well

Palace 6-0 to avoid relegation where the pitch was covered in balloons.
We'll ignore a) the football wasn't actually that good and b) couple of folks on the palace side had clearly been slipped a few quid.
Glorious.

Ignoring periods and generations I'm thinking about individual games and Im going controversial as it was a game under Mullery (who lets face it destroyed everything Venables achieved) and has to rely on Hughes, Hart and Critchety to avoid the worst ever QPR manager tag

Forest home September 1984 just before the wheels came off the following week against Spurs. 3-0. One of the best home displays I've ever seen and here we are 40+ years on and this dinosaur remembers it . Bannister unplayable and remains one of my favourite ever games. Someone may post a link

Away game equivalent? Newcastle 1993, 1-0. Best ever away performance but was actually the game (in hindsight) that started our demise as Keegan knew that Les was the answer for him. Unfortunately Hately was our response.

That was my first game as a season ticket holder. Had always stood in the East Paddock before that.

We are thinking yesterday's performance is up there?
