We were away at Derby, lunchtime kick off. It was Darren Peacock and Andy Tilsons debut, most notably though it was the first time I had seen a team come out 30 minutes before kick off and do a training session, Bobby Gould had recently joined the coaching staff and it was one of his innovations, we led 1-0 right up until the 90th minute only to be undone by a Dean Saunders equaliser. For the younger reader teams used to come out at five to three and hit a few balls at the keeper, and that was the warm up.
Sat next to a chap who kept asking my father & i what we thought of Andy Tilson . We said he was doing ok but that Peacock looked the better stronger player , towards the end of the game he revealed himself to be Tilson's father . Always disliked Saunders after the late leveller .

Just remembered that was also the week that the allegations came out about shilton, I kept reminding him about it, after about the tenth time as he was about to take a goal kick,he looked me straight in the eyes and said “ I’ll fǔcking punch you in a minute”

Andy Tillson was just pure silk. I cannot remember why his career never hit the heights that it should have. Myself and another lad in our number raved about him and we dubbed the lad “the poor mans Alan Hansen”.
Gould and Howe were a great double act. Blimey….thirty ‘kin five bloody years ago?! My word!!

Before QPR signed Tilson, Peacock and Brevett, they were playing with Gus Ceasar as a CB and had lost at least 6 in a row (might have been more).
Without those 3 players, QPR would almost certainly have been relegated that season. I think it was Bobby Gould who had spotted them because they were signed within a week or so of his arrival to assist Don Howe.

100% Bobby Gould, at the time the media said that he arrived at QPR with his little black book which listed all of the players that had impressed him.
I was at the game but my memory of it is very different. Peacock was superb! He had arrived from Hereford who were two or three divisions below us and he marked the experienced Derby striker, Mick Harford, out of the game.
Tilson was poor, I remember he missed a free header with no other players anywhere near him. He only ever played a few dozen games for us before becoming a Bristol Rovers leg end.

We'd been on horrendous losing run (I want to say 7 straight defeats) and had been relying on Gus Ceasar on loan. Bobby Gould, Peacock and Tilson came in and transformed us otherwise we would have been relegated that season
