He was a fine footballer, which prompted me to look at his wiki.

Scroll down the second paragraph of his playing career details, I'd never heard the Clough comment, made me laugh out loud.

A wonderful player and a great mate of Stan's.
So much so that Stan wanted to play in his benefit / testimonial game at Forest and was prevented from doing so by Cloughie.
This led to a massive fallout between Stan and his manager, which resulted in Stan refusing to play in Forest's second victorious European Cup final against Hamburg.
RIP John 🙏

Seriously good wideplayer with excellent technical ability as well as being able to to cross accurately with either foot. RIP John Robertson.

An absolute magician. Only ran for about 90 seconds a game, but completely untouchable and could land a cross on a spot with his eyes closed.

The least likeliest footballer I’ve ever seen, but also one of the best I’ve seen.
R.I.P.

Played on a pitch arguably worse even than Loftus Road, too.

The football would stick to his feet, one of those players who'd occasionally make you say to yourself 'bloody hell'

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

Brian Clough: "We've got a little fat guy that will turn him inside out"

Gary Newbon: John Robertson

BC: Yes, a very talented, highly skilled, unbelievable outside left. He'll turn him inside out!"

RIP Robbo

A fine footballer, especially in the golden days of Clough's Notts Forest in the late 1970s.
