Shame if true

I think - think - that the problem is that even if you could recall a player at any stage, you can't register them outside of the transfer windows, so there's no advantage to the recall?

I really don't know Brian, probably many rules covering this.

Like you I have been pondering Sam's departure today and I think the majority of us would love to see Sam stay for the remainder of his contract. Mr Dependable in so many ways.

However I think we have to respect Sam's desire to play as much football as he can and therefore wish him the best during his time with Norwich.

We will have Hayden though. Hayden, Dunne, Chair, possibly RND (who I wouldn't keep purely on robustness but fills the experienced head brief). Jake Clark Salter is still employed as a player.

So, lose Cook, lose Field from seniors.

Still have Dunne, Hayden, Chair. Paul Smyth is 28 and has over 100 Championship games. Possibly RND. JCS. I like teams to have an experienced keeper, so I would recruit one of those too.

I don't think the foundations of the squad collapse with Field leaving - Cook may prove a bigger miss. But there's quite a lot of experience still.

Plus all the mainstays from this season will have quite a few games under their belts now, a season wiser.

We may have Hayden. Was his deal not a short term contract? And he’s 31 in a couple of months, so won’t be here ages. Smyth has also had rumours around being sold, although I wouldn’t remotely put him in the same category as Field. Chair is a good shout.

There will be some left, but we’ll be losing two big leaders in the dressing room. And I wouldn’t say we’re bursting at the seams with them.

Yes I did Google the question and there are mentions of the transfer window but also that you can insert any clauses you wish so long as both parties agree.

You have to name a 25-man squad though now the window has closed, so even if you could recall him you can't play him. It's not a thing.

But we'll also be saving big wages, Cook apparently best paid at the club. So, swings and roundabouts: we may recruit some 25/26 year-old Championship stalwarts in the RND mould with that money. I think even a "Football Manager" CEO knows you need a leadership group. I'm sure Stephan does.

Hayden's contract at Newcastle was up this summer. I imagine he held on for another year to sign at QPR, though that's a guess. We don't need him for ages. Hopefully in 18 months Edwards, Kone, maybe Burrell become part of a leadership group, Madsen if he's here. He looks like he's become part of it this season.

Hope too that the new contract allows us to sell Smyth. We need to sell all who we can, but can only sell those not perpetually injured.

Maybe an agreement has been reached by the club with Field for the loan, a straight loan that will see him “regrouping” at the end of the season with the rest of the team

I don’t think the club wants to sell Field, with our model of trading up young players, we need to have an experience core of senior players as the spine of the team, and bring in young players for minutes so they can learn their trade, improve and put in the shop window.

By loaning out Field, that’s means minutes for Varane, Morgan and Isak all yourg players that were acquired cheaply and hopefully up sell.

As it stands k Hayden just be udge ahead of Field and Field is on more money(?) so Norwich pay us to play him so to keep him fit and contented at least for this season

Field just signed an extension, he is no going anywhere at the moment.

If that is an understanding between club and player, than Field must be applauded for his “sacrifice “. Just looking at the sideline that this loan is cordial between club and player

Poll: 2025/26 Ins & Outs - These are all welcomed but which one takes the cake?

How refreshing seeing all the good luck comments and positivity from QPR fans for Sammy Field on the Norwich social media posts.

Looking forward to a great reception when he returns to Loftus Road in the future.

My guess is this move, plus Liam Morrison, was part of the reason we could afford to add Ronnie Edwards to the wage bill.

Listening to the WLS podcast - David Mc saying that QPR were looking to sell not loan Field but accepted the loan as Norwich agreed to a substantial loan fee.

Why then after the 7-1 defeat against Coventry was Field the only one dropped completely? Why did the club bring Hayden in immediately?
That's a fact as to what happened, its not an opinion. If he was good enough he would not be sent out on loan. It happens all the time in football, brutal, but it happens.

JS has got us playing better football than MC and challenging for playoffs. That's improvement.

How is any of what I'm saying disrespectful if it's fact?

I don’t think any of us actually know, Wilkins. I agree with you on the ‘Stephan didn’t rate him ‘comment and said as much in my reply. But if that opinion was based on one match - when the whole team capitulated -that’s pretty unprofessional imo. If Field wanted to leave - which according to Nourry, he did - then it was probably the right thing to do, albeit very risky.
Where I can’t agree with you, is your claim that JS has improved us ‘several levels’ and Field has being left behind. Firstly because JS hasn’t, our form - particularly our away form - is dire, bar the odd highlight (Hull, Birmingham, Leicester and Coventry).
Secondly, the player, by and large, keeping Field out is Varane, who has been playing very average (and I’m being generous here). If he was being kept out by Madsen, I would say fair enough, but that is not the case with Varane. There is no doubt that Field could have partnered Madsen, just as adequately as Verane. Why is Hayden being preferred now? I think because a decision has been made since January came in to sell (loan) Field, so didn’t want to risk injury
Finally, as others have pointed out, Field was an ever present in the team that had the most impressive run of results in a calendar year under Warburton, so his ability is unquestionable at the upper end of the Championship

How has Varane has been keeping Field out of the team when he's not started since Varane was injured?

Regardless of whether you rate him or not, it makes no sense for either him or the club to stay here as a bit part player. I'd be very surprised if he plays for QPR again.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?
