Team for this game looks as if changes will have to be made for certain players or at least limited minutes from the start.
Tymon looked as if he was struggling by the end of that 90 minutes looks as if he is carrying a bit of an injury.
Ward who we assumed wouldn't or couldn't play 90 minutes and similarly Franco stayed on for the 90.
They stayed on to keep our shape with their experience and keep us competitive in winning the ball especially as we had to attack without the risk of opening ourselves to counter attacks.
Will they be able to provide another 90 minutes without issues and do you start with them while changing other positions because Sheffield opened us up a number of times with our original starting line up and should have scored more because we looked slow and ponderous to react both as a defending and an attacking team.
We allowed them space to move the ball not getting close to players early enough to get a challenge in a very passive performance until force to up the tempo.
Vipotnik looked leggy and didn't get into the game but is that because our wingers while trying to offer width to our game leave him isolated maybe as we are away from home we should be tucking in our wingers and our fullbacks getting tighter to the opposition wingers. Keeping us tight in the middle and able to shepherd teams play down the flanks which can be crowded out properly leaving the opposition the only option of going for the long ball from the goalie or high cross field balls which given the attributes of the likes of Ward, Cabango and Burgess would suit them better compared to having to contend with quick ball to feet.
For me Widell, Yalcouye and Stamenic are all midfielders that should be able to push forward and are ill suited to holding the midfield seemingly being reactive to opposition movement rather than proactive enabling them to close down the midfield, leaving us only Franco with too much to do.
Fulton came on and given the space in the midfield which was there when Stamenic was on the field and given the need to attack, Fulton was a different player to the one we had been used to seeing alongside Grimes.
Nunes and Idah able to hold the ball up with the support from the midfield. The midfield that was reluctant to press forward previously, did that isolated the forwards Better hold up play from the forwards or better support from the midfield with the defence tighter higher up the pitch leaving little room for Sheffield to play through us.
I think Middlesbrough will come and attack us making the game feel like an away game, will we leave ourselves exposed as we did away against Ipswich or most away games this season and as we did against Coventry, against better teams or away from home different tactics need to be adopted. Will Matos be able to affect those changes given the limitation of the squad? |  | | |
