| Swansea City v Southampton: Match day thread on 17:42 - Apr 18 by wwcigne | Very disappointed after watching that Why do we defend so deep inviting teams to come at us , we still give widemen too much space allowing them to put crosses and dangerous low balls into our box ,it was inevitable they would score given the amount of ball ,time and space we gave them We have to be in teams faces not standing off them also we can’t just let players run through us without putting a foot in or shouldering them off the ball the Ref didn’t help us either , bad to the point of downright biased , bottled the big decisions and let blatant fouls go as well as some cynical off the ball stuff it looked like a stonewall penalty from where I sat ,a definite pull back and just inside the box,but he was never going to give us anything as was obvious from the first whistle We really have had some clowns officiating this season Widell had another good game as did Eom and Franco and Parker did ok but I have to admit my shoulders sank when I saw Cullen’s name in the starting lineup,at least he wasn’t in front of Parker today but he wasn’t what we needed We had chances but gave them too much respect and too much time and space second half ,you won’t win games doing that |
Decent post It’s gutting to lose after so much battling And yes, appalling and rather sinister refereeing However , I’ve just read Tymon was “ outstanding “ so I need to lie down as to me he is an abject defender Cullen ? Question is why he is at the club at all Being a local( ish) isn’t enough Widdell WAS outstanding although his shooting is terrible but he’s all action and a great team man He was assaulted by Downes who’s another shthouse too many of ours lauded And Wood got away with murder It’s been a lousy frustrating season albeit not a disastrous one which it could have been Matos has much to learn

I don’t know what pressure is on them to keep it tight at the top but it’s come at our expense today for that I have Jo doubt. Nunes, bye bye. |
That should be 2 defenders who are next to bloody useless with their feet.

How can we with Burgess presenting four chances to the opposition to score because he can’t pass the ball. The one in the second half looked like he had just woken up and if it wasn’t for Malick we would have been in trouble.

Well if he is unable then offload him It’s not just him though We are fragile Why bring off Widdell who is the fittest by some margin Nuts We seem To take it in turns Basically

Much makes no sense to me Keith It comes to something when a professional footballer cannot kick a ball to a team mate ten yards away though Nunez passed it from two yards It’s unacceptable , all day long

| Swansea City v Southampton: Match day thread on 17:56 - Apr 18 by KeithHaynes | We need a manager who doesn’t defend a 1-0 lead. This isn’t top flight football and we don’t have the players. He needs to learn quickly to utilise his players to win games not lose them like he has again today. Despite the referee. |
I partly agree, cant write down what I think of the ref, as id be banned, But some of our defending is down to them pushing for a result, and tbh some better players, once again this week a team with several ex players in there!. We are deffo short of some players.

Spot on ,Burgess is good in the air but no ball player ,let him play it simple, put his foot through it This deep defending, inviting teams up to our 18 yard box is absolutely ludicrous and it’s costing us ,we aren’t Juventus !! We should keep attacking and getting in teams faces and that will stop them coming at us constantly in the second halves and give US chances to win games Matos does make some curious subs ,I hope he learns soon Cullen …..don’t get me started | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Add in a goalkeeper who tips a ball over the bar when it was already a foot over the bar anyway. Needless corner leads to a needless goal. We need a goalkeeper, not a stopper.

I’m a big fan of Vig but he wasn’t at his best today. He dropped a catch also which could have ended up as a goal. He's 6’4” so i’d expect him to be better at that side of the trade. His distribution was well below par today as well.

| Swansea City v Southampton: Match day thread on 17:00 - Apr 18 by union_jack | For all the good things today, our play was both physically and mentally lazy at times. There was no running into gaps to look for a ball, the one with the ball had to look for players. And mentally, they gave away possession too easily as there were too many ‘that will do’ type passes.all that said, that’s the difference in a team going for promotion and something very much yo play for to a team waiting for the end of the season. Can’t complain really except for the ref and linesmen who were bloody useless and that’s being kind. |
Corrupt is the word, its too fecking obvious for it not to be. And it happens in most games, he should be hounded off the pitch and that linesman who couldn't see that their player was two yrds offside and didn't give it, luckily their player ballsed the job up. There's more to it with these refs than pure incompetence, there's got to be it happens to us every time we play a "popular" going for glory team.

When you look at his so called pedigree its baffling to see how incompetent he actually is. Cabango has his faults, but he wears his heart on his sleeve and he cares.

In fairness, he failed to give them a penalty as well. I'm not convinced he is corrupt; just totally useless!

Fair point Bomber, but when you see what went on today particularly with Downes neck hold on Widell and Woods late challenge on Franco or was it Eom? it makes you think and your bound to get a tad emotional how many times do you see a ref delay in stopping a game because of a clear suspected head injury incompetent at least.
| Swansea City v Southampton: Match day thread on 23:11 - Apr 18 with 1711 views | RichardO | For me we are finally starting to get a shape about us and the midfield started to work properly Eom Franco, Widell and Stamenic even Cullen all having good games that kept Southampton at a distance and able to soak up pressure while also get us playing across the midfield with some purpose to enable us to get further up the pitch while keeping a good defensive shape, Parker and Tymon played well and Burgess and Cabango dealing the aerial route that Southampton had to use, yes they struggled at times with bouncing balls and pressure off the centreforward but mistakes were covered.we caused them as much problems as they caused us in that first half and deserved the lead. The second half meant they had to attack with more movement which left them short at times but we are still think we need to kill teams off with the quick break away which often are too rushed giving the ball away too easily or by playing the ball across the back but not having the patience to let good movement finally open teams up by basically not having the covering players to compliment the players going forward leaving us outnumbered in any breakaway. In that second half we gave the ball away too easily got pushed back because we didn't keep possession of the ball as we did in the first half.Idah came on and initially seem to make a difference but we stopped supporting him in the middle of the park.similarly Nunes giving the ball away because of lack of support. Some of our players are getting better and better looking better and better but today in that second half we played too open lost our shape and gave away our first goal away think we were unlucky to concede the second but being unable to hold the ball up top because of the lack of support from the midfield, if that midfield was further forward the way we played from deep in the first half got the ball forward with good movement and support the gaps wouldn't have appeared in the Southampton defence to be exposed and keeping the pressure on Southampton | | | |
| Swansea City v Southampton: Match day thread on 08:06 - Apr 19 with 1479 views | RichardO | One thing I do find a little disappointing is Vigouroux clearances especially in open play, one of the aims is to create space further up the pitch as the opposition press our defenders if our midfield doesn't drop as at times they shouldn't then he has to either find space that the forwards can run onto or at least be played towards a forward who can battle for the ball and those further forward midfielders can pick up the pieces or the ball played to them by our badly marked forwards. At times Vigouroux long clearances are not precise enough not finding space or a forward which allows the pressure on us to build on us.even good clearances not helped if the midfield and defence stops pushing forward as a team and leave our forwards isolated., will also say at times when good clearances are made and wingers get tighter to centre forwards openings appear, we really need to be able to vary our play to suit games as they develop in the second half we struggled to support our forward and play in a controlled manner. | | | |

For me the difference was the quality they could bring on from the bench, the debth of their squad is incredible, bringing Archer on in the 88th minute is a prime example. We can put out a team to match anyone 11 v 11 but the better teams have better squads and it seems more of the referee decisions.

No doubt about the having a squad with depth makes a difference but I think matched them for large patches of the match but really didn't help ourselves giving balls away so easily allowing ourselves to eventually get pulled out of shape not covering forward runs that had previously in the game had been closed down, did they get fortunate with their first goal yes with the double headers that could have gone anywhere but with so many crosses coming in it was eventually going to tell.

Some of our substitutes like Yalcouye and Nunes are just not physically strong enough, get caught in possession and give the ball away to easily. As for Ward he should be nowhere near a Championship side, hopefully none of them will be with us next season.

Agreed Ward WAS a good player Signing him when he is so unfit and effectively done was another mistake Frankly , considering the shocking loans and dumbarse buys we’ve done reasonably well On posy side , I think Parker will turn out to be rather good

Parker is growing with every game, his awareness is sharper and you can see him gaining confidence. I can see him being first choice RB next season, Key playing further upfield?

It was on Franco, tbf he won the ball, but his studs were up, considering sometimes they give freekicks for being too physical....he left it go, as stated either useless or whatever......I know what my thoughts are.

Get the ball or not - and I thought he got Franco not the ball but would need to see it again - he came in with excess force from behind which is a foul. The ref was under a lot of pressure to endure the top of the table remains competitive for some reason!

Parker looked as if he tired towards the end of the first half or was he asked to tuck in more, Ward was needed as back up to Key, was Parker deemed too inexperience for the championship or did he have previous injury issues, luckily we had Ward for cover for Key but because of Ward lack of fitness it has enable Parker time to bed in a bit without subjecting him to the rigours of 90 minutes which a lot of us think he will ultimately capable but I'm happy for a cautious approach with the season coming to a close. Would Ronald have been a better option to come on instead of Nunes and I was surprised to see Stamenic coming off given he was stepping forward more often in this game than before meaning the gap between the forwards and defence seem to decreased and we were able to get forward in a more controlled manner. Given the work Eom put in he seem to flag towards the end of the game or was he better suited on the right by moving him to the left did we made too many changes to the right hand side lots of ifs and buts wouldn't have Nunes or Yalcouye back and would hope to use Ward in a more limited capacity as or if needed. Enjoyed the facted we got ahead and disappointed we were unable to hold on to the gamefrom a leading position which we have done relatively well under Matos
