Says he had no idea it was against English laws as the practice is widespread on the continent.

Surely someone should have told him!

He must be sacked. Let us all down.

No matter what the appeal brings (my guess is phuq all), anyone who thinks those who knew spying was happening can be rehabilitated inside SFC , is smoking dope.

God knows, even SR deserve some sympathy...it's not as if they haven't put a decent amount into the club which has just evaporated. Hard to believe they think Eckert should be at pre-season training come July.

Being in the PL is the only place to be..there is no shame in being the next Brentford/Fulham/Boscombe/Brighton. We had that in our hands and we dropped the ball. Just to return to where we were 2 weeks ago will take the mother of all resets.

Nicky Butt got it in one...Eckert should be fired twice, once for cheating and once for being so lacking in self belief that he felt he needed to.

Exactly! Ignorance is not a valid reason.

I tried it when I was stopped for speeding in Germany, I didn't realise it was a 30kph and not a 50kph ... I explained that, was told "you should know" (which is fair) and got a 200 euro fine.

Germans are scrupulously honest, to the point of ridiculousness.

Before I had to head back to the UK in mid-March for a family emergency (and thank God my Mum is no longer around to see Saints in such a sorry mess of their own making) I had ordered a couple of parcels from Adidas.

When I got back to Germany for a flying visit in early May the (clearly marked) parcels were still propped up in the communal hallway outside the front door of our apartment. I’d long given up on ever seeing them.

A while back I was talking to an Indian taxi driver who was telling me how he loved working in Germany because Germans were so honest and never did a runner.

Tonda’s only going to get a job in a country where cheating is considered an art form. Somewhere like the Iberian peninsula, Italy or South America.

You cannot reason a person out of something they were not reasoned into.

Can't disagree.
Feelings continue to alternate between anger and disappointment today,
I thought he was the best coach we've ever had in terms of victories.
Just when you think things are on the up, something negative occurs.
The joys of supporting Saints eh ?
Ah well , life goes on and this sorry episode won't bring me down, there's more to life than football.

At my age your last sentence can probably be disputed....but I get your drift.

It's just the overpowering absurdity of it that kills me. Just say you've been on a 3 week backpacking trail in the Amazon basin with zero internet...you land this morning..

So they should.

If we're out, they should be in.

Boro blew automatics and couldn't beat us over two legs. They don't deserve to be in the final without beating Wrexham first (which they failed to do on the last game of the season).

Interesting that it's really a separate issue as to what the consequence of Saints being kicked out should be. The decision to punish Saints is up to the committee. But the decision as to what then happens is not necessarily theirs.

Postpone final and organise a new semi- between Boro v Wrexham to see who plays Hull would be the only reasonable outcome.

The outcome will be what Steve Gibson, Neil Bausor & Nick de Marco want it to be.

If we'd hired Nick de Marco, the outcome would have been different. He literally wrote the book on football and the law. It's not about what's right or wrong; it's about winning legal battles.

The only reason he hasn't been sacked is because the club know the FA will ban him from football and then they are rid for free.

I got fined for being a day late to register a change of address.

I tried explaining that I’d try to register the day before I went on holiday but their system was down so I couldn’t. While on said holiday I got COVID and was in no fit state to register on my immediate return. I went to register ASAP and missed the deadline. It was only €20 or something but still.

The Germans are so obsessed with sticking to the rules that he’ll never get a job in his home country IMHO.

You cannot reason a person out of something they were not reasoned into.

Wasn't ignorance Harry "the bung" Redknapp's excuse when he got his collar felt by HMRC a few years ago concerning some iffy bonus from Mandaric winding up in a Monaco Account.

He claimed to be stupid and the court decided that, coming from him, that was indeed so true that they acquitted him on all charges.

Wrexham want a Hollywood ending, but I can't see they have any case for one. We did not get a points deduction for this season and we weren't thrown out of the Championship. So Wrexham still finished outside the play-off places. We're being thrown out of the play-offs which, I understand, is a separate competition to the regular season. The only issue is should we be retrospectively thrown out of the first round, or out of the final?

For me, Boro don't deserve to be reinstated because they lost on merit. Spying made no difference in our tie and we know that because they murdered us in the first 45 mins. If we'd learned something useful about their line up and tactics, why were we so hopeless in that first 45 mins? We had to reorganise at half time before we started to play.

So, Boro did not suffer from spying and deserve no recompense. Hull should be given a bye.

agree middlesborough shouldn't be given a lifeline, but efl and fa are never giving hull a bye and losing all the money the final generates so this decision has backed them into a corner. My view on the appeal is they will cancel our points deduction which is exactly why they put it there, one rule for the big boys another for the peasants.

I think everyone on here should calm down.
Why would we want to sack our best coach since Koeman? We've had a lot of shite coaches over the last 10 years and it could be we wait another 10.
By your own admission you say he could learn little from spying which has been virtually proved true. Irrespective of the scant information he might have gleaned, he has created (with Spors) the best team we've had for years, he's put players in their favoured positions, but he's also built a unity and team togetherness that we have not seen, he's built a sporting machine that never says die. The players are committed to and want to play for him because he has a vision, he changes tactics midgame, his substitutions are virtually perfect, he's clever, logical and thorough. We must give him a second chance, why punish ourselves even more by throwing him out?
In a year from now this will all be forgotten, nobody will give a sh*t, there will a hundred other things to worry about. Let him and our club prove we can win the league anyway.

"By your own admission you say he could learn little from spying which has been virtually proved true. "

I don't know who that's addressed to, but just to be clear I didn't say that and I don't agree with it. What I said is that we learned nothing that helped against Boro. But, we certainly could have done and we've probably learned useful information for other games this season. Set piece drills (plus penalties for the play-offs) are the most useful thing, but even just seeing what passing shapes they're working on before the game, or how they organise a press is useful information. Boro knew what happened and what we would have seen, so they could adjust. Other teams wouldn't have been able to.

The players have been praising the "detail" they've been given since Tonda arrived. That's been said multiple times. Clearly they see the value in it. Now we hear that this detail was described as "straight from the training ground" while the players laughed. Lots of fans don't see the value in spying but the players clearly do. Tonda also clearly sees the value, otherwise he wouldn't have asked for it.

But you highlight why people aren't calm. Tonda will have to go. Our best manager in years, will go. A do it by the book manager will take his place.

All the spin is falling into place.

Spors didn't know. Tonda did they say. So we know who is going to fall on his sword. Saints will have to show they have dealt with the culprit. So more managerial upheaval, and player comings and goings with a points deduction.

I can see why people would want this but you're still left with the problem that Wrexham didn't qualify for the play-offs and that won't change unless 1 of 2 things happen. Either

1) We are given a big points deduction for this year (which hasn't happened), or
2) They change the rules of the competition in the middle of it (which won't happen)

and before anyone says it, no the EFL haven't changed the rules to throw us out. They have done a lot wrong, but they haven't changed the rules.

Unless you have 1 of the 2 things above, Wrexham just don't qualify.
0

I am pretty sure the EFL haven't thought this through.
Hull now taking legal action suggesting that Boro have no legal right to have a free pass to the final. There could be payouts galore with throwing us out.
