I never warmed to McNulty. As a player, wholehearted, but an accident waiting to happen.
When he was a head coach, I rarely looked forward to games, despite playing in the lowest level in my lifetime, for much of his reign we’d be picked off by poor sides who sat in and waited for errors, eg Ebbsfleet, but the nonsensical post match interviews, I can’t forget, wittering about budgets, rolling players on and off (Southend). I will never forgive the home performance v Barnet, abject and McNulty applauded the apoplectic departing fans. Ultimately capitulation in the 24/25 season, ignominious defeat versus Spennymore and Southend. Last season, we did it, got out of that godforsaken division, such a relief, that’s how it felt, but oh how we nearly blew it. Let’s not forget McNulty making a point about fixture congestion and making all those changes at Brackley, three points dropped for making a point about two games in four days. As others have said our form in the last third of the season was poor, performances at Yeovil and Sutton and Braintree were poor, yes we won two of those, but the signs were there. Collapses from winning positions at Halifax and Scunthorpe, thrashed at home by (soon to be) relegated Morecambe. My enduring memory from my seat in the main stand of the final home game of the season, was of Dan Moss celebrating with fans on the touchline, as York mounted the final attack…
I know many on here hold McNulty in high regard, a great communicator, I think he’s a great communicator - if he’s agreed with, the experience shows he’s had little challenge, from err, Greg, I wonder how he’ll get on with Sky and Radio Bolton? To my mind he’s full of management speak. The style of play, is boring, successful this season yes, of course, put the opposition to sleep then, players like Mani and Hendo will eventually find a way. But press us, stay with us, compete for 90 mins (Sutton, Morecambe, Braintree) and we’re just average even in the NL.
Borehamwood outplayed us for 75 mins, until they thought they’d done enough and subbed their best players.
McNulty looked absolutely gaunt after the game, and who can blame him for monetising his position and quit while he’s ahead. I don’t blame him. But I also think now is the right time for him to be replaced, hopefully someone experienced, can play proper football - and who doesn’t talk nonsense after we’ve lost!! | | | |

That post will hurt some but it's all pretty factual. I will take all of that though for that one day at Wembley, the trophy, the promotion. He wasn't my cup of tea for the reaaons you've set out but i'm bloody thankful for what he finally achieved. Maybe we can look at it this way...he was a rooky manager who took over a basket case of a club and as you would expect made errors along the way. Did he improve during his tenure? Yes he did. There was good, there was bad, there was one astonishing season, the likes of which we'll never see again. There was promotion. There are the best owners we, or Jim, could wish for.
I wonder if Jim will mention "clout" when the likes of Leicester, Sheffield Wednesday etc etc beat County, Greg?
Amazing how a family can change the club they support and shirts they wear in one day. Not what real fans do. That's football and money to those making a wage out of the game.
Dale fans won't. Three generations of support and counting here and there will be even more generations out there in our fanbase.
Thanks Jim. You did a job, got paid, showed loyalty for a while then showed none. That's football. But like many others you followed, we won't be swapping colours for a pay day.

The Club wanted McNulty to stay, he wanted to leave. He was still our manager this time last week. I have no doubt the club did all they could do to keep him and worked their close season plans and finances around that. He's not the first manager and he wont be the last to kiss the badge and then jump on to the next opportunity. Draw a line under it and look forward to our new manager, i'm more interested in our club going forward than what happens to McNulty. I find this ' Not the end, just the end of the chapter' a bit patronising and presumptious also. The only way he will want to return to our club is if he has no better job opportunities elsewhere. It's called not burning your bridges. The club isn't a employment insurance policy should his plans not work out. [Post edited 8 Jun 7:26]

Being taken aback by his move has nothing to do with business acumen though. The acumen is in dealing with it professionally, no gnashing of teeth... and having a plan in place

At the level we are at all staff should jump at the opportunity to move up a level or two…the monetary difference I can well appreciate will make a significant boost to their income.
I’ve never got my head around the prem players badge kissing then moving on to go for example a 150 k weekly salary to a 200 K salary elsewhere..it’s a world I have no understanding of..can’t believe that people spend 100 k plus on a watch for example | | | |

As I said considering the strap line for next season contains Jim's mantra they weren't expecting him to leave.
I'm grateful for Jim for getting the club back into The EFL much quicker than expected (I feared we may have even dropped into NLN like York, Scunthorpe Stockport et al had done). But apologies if I'm speaking out of turn it has annoyed me somewhat the board have been left with this headache. [Post edited 8 Jun 10:44]

I'm quite obviously referring to those who're employed, or engaged with the club in an official capacity, who'd have no other reason to be performatively "kissing the badge" than to curry favour with those whose emotional investment in the club clouds their judgement
Take it for what it is. If you turn up and support, from wherever you travel from or whatever your origins, you'd be doing so for no other ulterior motive. It's not difficult to separate those two aspects
