To the great relief of the general public, I’m sure, that never happened to me, although the passenger compartment, as any taxi driver will attest, often doubled as a kind of ‘sleeping pod’ whenever the need arose.
One driver, banished from home by his wife, spent nearly a year living in the back of his cab and could be found every morning on the Elgin Avenue rank frying eggs over a portable gas stove.
Thinking about it, ‘Falling Asleep In Stupid Places’, while clearly not a subject for this thread, might well prove fertile ground for another in due course. |  | | |

Been sober since my mid 20s, and soon to hit 40.
I was, and am, a dyed in the wool alcoholic though and drank myself into psychiatric care and then rehab.
Oddly, was taken on a stadium tour of QPR when I was in psychiatric care. Walked through Redknapp's office at the time which had about 6 empty bottles of red wine in.
Life for me is infinitely better sober, and still a member of AA.

Well done on the sober time mate! I'm a CA member (it was drink and powder for me) and I'll be 9 years in November. Mostly Birmingham City lads in my meetings up where I live now. Costa on Uxbridge Rd is part of the ritual before home games for me. I can actually remember the goals the next day these days. I'm in Spain for a couple of weeks and love the atmosphere in the bars here when there's a world cup game on without any thought of a drink. Also found out that Málaga are back in the Spanish premier league so hopefully will be able to get to a couple of big games over here too next season | | | |

Currently on the wagon, as of Friday. Ive had a very long battle with it, truth be told. Ive gone on the wagon before, and then made a conscious decision to start drinking again. I can function day to day, i dont go on massive sessions for days and can go all week without one. But Friday nights i can knock back a couple of bottles of wine and 4 beers, then Saturday/Sunday. . I turned 50 this year , and years of heavy drinking is catching up with me. I've now got Barrettes oesophagus and a hiatus hernia which i have to keep an eye on.
Ive told myself im not drinking till my holiday end of August, then knock it on the head again until my next appointment with the doctors next year.
I always feel better the next morning when i dont drink. Moderation is the key, but easier said than done. For me anyway.

Great stuff mate.
Been in that Costa a few times myself. Go for a good meal before home games, or occasionally to meet friends in old haunts as bars don't hold that fear for me. |  | | |
