A few points, admittedly after a nice night on the Riesling out here in Vienna.
Diggswell, don't worry about it, nothing to do with you. It should be possible to post 'RIP Anne Widdicombe' without it descending into that. Unfortunately it's not.
It should also be possible for me to go away in the summer without this message board descending into that. Unfortunately, 20 years in, it seems it's also not.
Politics, online discourse, right v left, social media. It's very aggy. It's ruining our politics and our society, IMO. It's making us stupider, collectively. And easier to persuade, manipulate, rule and lie to.
We took a decision a while ago to just not do politics on LFW any more, because every thread went the same way, everybody thought the same as they did at the start, people fall out, it's not worth the aggro. After Covid, Brexit, Boris, Corbyn... we all basically know now what political persuasion every regular poster here leans towards. Do we need to thrash that out again every time an issue comes up? Oh, turns out Poster X has taken exactly the political stance on this issue that they have on every other political issue that's ever been raised here... what a fcking surprise.
There are plenty of places on the internet where you can go and discuss that stuff, and this place IMO should be a place where we just do football, music, TV, films, popular culture, how do I fix my fridge, does anybody know a plumber in West Drayton etc.
Every summer, or every time there's a big election, I think oh maybe I'll let that slide a bit and see how we go, and every time I do it ends up like that.
Things to remember
- we are all QPR fans
- it is just a message board
- we're all grown (very grown in most cases on here) adults, we should probably know better by now
- we do not call each other cnts, on this message board, ever. However much we're wound up, however much we disagree. There has to be that level of respect for each other's views.
